| Heath's POV |
Everything in Heath's head was a mess. His shoulders felt heavy and his legs like slugs as he dragged himself through the yard. The house was nearly empty when he got back home but he wasn't in the mood to socialize with those who were still inside. Not that he had at all throughout the night anyway.
Seeing Sabrina just had that much of a toll on him. He didn't think that would be his reaction if he ever saw her again. He even imagined her running to his arms and him picking her up in the tightest hug as he swayed the girl he loved around. Loved. Was that even what he felt anymore? He was unsure at this point.
Heath rolled up his pants to right under his knees and sat on the ground dipping his feet in the water. It was cold out and the water wasn't any help but having his feet dipped in that way kept him grounded for the moment.
His thoughts were soon interrupted by a drunken Zane.
"Baby! What are you doing out here?" He said stumbling toward Heath and pushing him over slightly as he sat next to him.
"Just getting some air." Heath said in monotone voice.
"I can't believe Sab is here. In LA! With Us!" Zane exclaimed. Heath almost felt bad that he wasn't as excited as Zane.
"We'll finally get to catch up and spend time together like before," he playfully shoved Heath.
"I don't know, Zane." Heath replied feeling like he was telling a child that Santa wasn't real. "Things are different now."
"What are you talking about? Sab is still Sab! I was talking to her and she seems the same to me. And we're still us right? I mean sure, we have this nice ass house now, some cool ass friends and we're basically as poor as we were before we got here. Yeah, we're definitely still us," Zane giggled.
But Heath didn't find it amusing.
"Oh come on, lighten up Heath. It's Sab! Sabrina, you and me! Together again. You were so pressed to hear about her and now it's like you don't even care." Zane smacked his teeth.
Every word Zane spoke pushed a button further into Heath's gut making him angrier. "Shut up, will you!" He yelled getting up. "Nothing's the same and you know it. She's not who she was anymore, Zane. When will you realize that?"
"Tone down your pride Heath. What did you expect? For her to crawl into your arms confessing her undying love for you?" Zane said sarcastically.
"Fuck you, Zane." Was all he could say. Heath really did hate how well Zane could read him. Instead of getting defensive and making himself obvious to Zane's words he walked away and into his room.
He didn't care that his feet were wet and plopped over his bed like a starfish. She was different. He was different. They were different.
| Sabrina' POV |
"Why does the weekend go by faster than the weekday?" Kristen moaned with her head down over Sabrina's desk.
"Because time goes by faster when you're doing nothing. Could you stack these in that shelf please?" Sabrina handed Kristen a crate filled with magazines, to keep her busy.
"I guess so," Kristen stood up and dragged herself along with the crate.
"So you never told me how you know Zane and Heath?" She asked with her back turned to Sabrina as she tried to reach the highest shelf.
"Just old friends." Sabrina answered, occupying herself with emails she had already replied to.
"Yeah, you said that already. But I need details. There was more than just a friendly showdown going on between you and Heath." Kristen was now tip toeing to reach, completely ignoring the small stepping stool next to her. "It was like he'd seen a ghost."
Sabrina tried to remember the expression on his face but she couldn't because just the thought of having had run into him clouded her mind altogether.
"We haven't seen each other in over a year, maybe that's why." Sabrina shrugged it off.
"That's not a long time." Kristen exhaled when she finally put up the stack she was struggling with.
"It was all just too much for him, I guess." Again, Sabrina wasn't sure if she was trying to convince Kristen or herself.
Shaking her hands of dirt reminenets, Kristen turned back to Sabrina. "Okay, I won't pry anymore. But if you ever want to talk about it. I'm here." She smiled sweetly.
"Thank you." Sabrina was glad that was the end of that conversation. It's not that she didn't want Kristen to know. It was more the fact that Sabrina wasn't ready to talk about it especially when she wouldn't even let her own mind think about it. It was as if she was afraid of the words Heath wrote. Everything that had happened had been too much and his words were the icing on the cake that was just way too sugary to swallow.
"Well I hope it doesn't mean you won't hang out with us anymore. We're all going out Friday night. You should come if you want. Zane will be there, Heath too so if you don't want to, I understand." Kristen slouched a bit in disappointment most likely attempting to make her feel bad.
Sabrina wanted to come up with an excuse but she couldn't find a real one and before she knew it she said, "Sure, I'll come." Maybe the second round would be different.
"Yes!" Kristen hissed in excitement as she got back to work.
"Hey, Kristen you know there's a step right next to you right?" Sabrina finally pointed out after watching Kristen struggle.
"Where? No, there isn't," Kristen kicked the stool away quickly.
Sabrina laughed at her friend who knew exactly how to make her feel better
