| Heath POV |
"Let it go, Heath. You've caused enough damage already. You're lucky he didn't send the cops looking for you," Zane tried to stay as collected as he could without yelling at Heath for everything he'd done in the past few hours.
But Heath ignored him as he looked vigorously around his room for Donna's number.
He beat the shit out of Ken and possibly broke Sab's heart. But if it meant Sabrina wouldn't end up marrying Ken it would all be worth it.
"I just need that girl to prove it. Sab needs to hear it for herself. I'm sure he's convincing her by now that he didn't cheat on her. That coward," Heath scoffed rummaging through some papers on his nightstand.
"Heath just stop! You sound like a crazy man," Zane almost yelled watching him from the door frame.
"I am crazy, ok? I'm crazy over Sabrina. I have been since high school. I love her so much I can't let her marry this jackass," Heath stood from his bed yelling louder than Zane.
"I know that. I've always known," Zane admitted. "The way you would look at her and talk about her whenever she wasn't around. The stupid shit you would do and say just to make her smile."
Heath looked stunned yet thankful at the same time.
"Just let me do this, Zane, please. I don't care if I can't have her, as long as he doesn't is enough for me."
Zane sighed deeply, giving Heath a look of compromise. Heath smiled softly and kept looking.
"Here it is," he said holding up the small paper and dialing Donna's number.
"Hello," Donna answered.
"Donna, sweetheart. It's Heath."
Heath asked her about the curly blonde Zane had described from that night they went out with Ken and his frat brothers. Donna was bothered at first that Heath wanted to hook up with one of her friends, until he explained the situation to her. She agreed to help and passed along the curly blonde's number.
Curly Blonde
H: This is weird but can we meet up to talk
H: I'm Donna's friend HeathCB: sure thing
They agreed to meet up at the Silver Diner nearby. Heath arrived first waiting at a booth for the girl to arrive. He felt crazy when he really thought about all the hassle he was going through to prove a point but then Sab's smile would pop into his head and he knew it was the right thing to do.
"Hey," he heard a sweet voice walking toward him. The tall, curly blonde took a seat across from him.
"Hey, I'm Heath," he shook her hand.
"I remember you," she smiled."So, what's up?"
"This is going to sound weird," Heath hesitated and could see the confused look on the girl's face. "Do you remember the guy Ken?"
The blonde blushed, pushing her hair behind her ear. "Uh, yeah I remember him."
"I don't mean to be rube, but did anything happen between the two of you? Anything sexual?" Heath asked, expecting harsh words for asking something so impolite or a slap to the face.
"No," she replied quickly. "Nothing happened."
"You don't have to cover up for him," Heath said puzzled.
"I'm not at all. I could cover for myself and say that something actually did happen. But I'm embarrassed to admit he rejected me," she looked down shamefully.
Those words were enough of a slap to the face. Heath asked her again then once more for reassurance but the girl promised and swore it. They left the club together but Ken just called a cab for her then went home on his own.
Driving home, Heath cursed himself and his stupidity. He felt ashamed, humiliated and guilty for bringing all of this on Sabrina. He had to make it right, he had to apologize to her; even to Ken.
He parked infront of the yellow house, feeling his body shake with anxiety. He was afraid of facing them but he'd been an imbecile who caused trouble that wasn't there. Maybe Ken wasn't as bad as he thought and the reality was that his jealousy got the best of him.
Heath walked up to the door, rubbing his hands together realizing they had become wet from sweat. He lightly knocked on the door.
He was stunned to see a red nose, puffy eyed Sabrina open the door. His heart sunk at the sight of her crying face.
"Leave," she said slamming the door in his face.
Heath place his foot in front of the door holding it back, "Wait, I have to explain myself. I fucked up Sab. I'm so sorry I did this to you."
Sabrina sobbed more. "Heath please, just get out of here."
"No Sab, you need to know. Ken didn't cheat on you. It was all in my head and I just didn't want you to end up hurt," he pushed against the door as she tried to close it again.
"She knows that you asshole," Ken said pulling the door open.
Heath saw the result of his punches on Ken's purple swollen eye and busted lip.
"Ken," Heath took in a deep breath exhaling any pride he had in him,"I'm sorry for-" he felt a forceful punch to his face knocking him back, down the stairs.
He held his jaw, spitting out blood from his mouth. "Ok, I deserve that. But please, you have to know I'm so sorry for everything I caused."
"I don't care Heath! Leave!" she yelled at him from the door through sobs. "I hate you! I never want to see you again!" Was the last thing she shouted before Ken engulfed her in a hug and slammed the door on Heath.
Heath fucked up so bad and he knew it. He wish he had listened to Zane but his stubbornness lead him here. He had really lost Sab forever now.
