I am worthy
I am worthy
I am worthy
Say it with me:
I am worthy.
Speak that out. Make it your mantra. I am worthy.
Because the truth is we are children of God and we are worthy. In our darkest times when our faces are in the dirt and we feel like we're crying out to a wall, we are worthy of love. When we are at our best and are proclaiming God's greatness and everything is awesome, we are worthy of love. At every point in between when life is mundane, we are worthy of love. At every moment of everyday we are worthy of love.
We're not just worthy of love, but we're worthy of peace. We are worthy of grace. We are worthy of mercy. We are worthy of joy and happiness. We are worthy of everything Christ is worthy of. We're not worthy because of who we are, but who Christ is. Once we are saved, when God looks at us He sees His Son. Since His Son is worthy, we are worthy.
We like saying we are worthy of death and hell. Christians testify all the time that they don't deserve what God does for them and all they are is worthy of death and hell. But how can that be true given that we are new creations in Christ? Yes, the old person is worthy of hell. But the new being you become when Christ transforms you is not worthy of hell.
We are worthy of our love. If Jehovah God can love us enough to fearfully and wonderfully form us in the womb, we can love ourselves. If Christ Jesus can give up His heavenly throne, dwell on earth, and die the murderer's and thief's deaths on Calvary, we can love ourselves. If the Holy Ghost loves us enough to deal with our stupid crap on a daily basis, we can love ourselves. It's as simple as that. It's not easy, but it's simple.
What it comes down to is love is a 3 legged stool. God loves us, we love ourselves, and we love others. If any of those 3 legs are shorter than the other two, the stool is rendered useless. If we don't love ourselves as much as much loves us then we can't love other people. Just like how we can't love God if we don't love others.
So if we don't love ourselves we are pretty much useless to the Kingdom, and the enemy knows that. And he knows if you discover that truth then you'll really be victorious. That's why we need to guard ourselves against the lies he whispers into our ears. Especially the lies that diminish our self love.
There's a number of ways we can guard ourselves.
1) prayer and fasting
2) intentional and genuine worship
3) maintaining Christian friendships
These are just 3 of the many ways we can guard our hearts against the lies of the enemy. 1 and 2 are a given. We know that prayer and fasting and intentional and genuine worship are the big ways to guard our hearts. 3 is the one I'm going to touch on.
We hear it all the time from our elders. "Show me your friends and I'll show you your future." We probably look at them and think they're stupid. They're not wrong, though. Your friends and who you associate with are truly the determining factors of your future.
You are who you hang out with. If you hang out with negative Nancy's and Debbie downers, that's what you're going to be. If you hang out with drug addicts and alcoholics, that's what you're going to be. If you hang out with people who take part in recreations that aren't Christian, that's what you'll start doing. You are who you hang out with.
In the same way if you hang out with people who seek after God's heart, you'll seek after God's heart. If you hang out with regular church goers, you'll be a regular church goer. If you hang out with people who speak life, you'll speak life. You are who you hang out with.
Heavenly Father, thank You for loving us. Thank You for making us worthy and giving us worth. Lord, help us to love ourselves with the love you love us with. Help us to guard our hearts from the lies of the enemy. Strengthen us. Comfort us, Lord. Allow us to be eagles not turkeys.
