"a misfit is one who is uncomfortable with his or her surroundings and is seen to be disturbingly different than others."
Romans 12:2 tells us, "do not conform to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind. Then you will be able to test and approve what God's will is- his good, pleasing, and perfect will." (NIV) We are not called to be comfortable in this world, because we are not called to be conformed to this world because to be comfortable in this world is to be comfortable in sin. Rather, we are calling to be transformed, to be "disturbingly different" than this world. When the world is partying, we should be worshiping. When the world is gossiping, we should be praying. When the world is killing, we should be resurrecting.
Jesus was radically different. In the end that's why He was crucified. We are called to live and walk as Jesus did. When the world was doing wrong Jesus was right in the middle of it praising and praying. When the world was leaving the sick and the lame for dead, Jesus was healing and ressurecting. So when our world around us is doing wrong, we need to be praising and praying. When the world around us is bringing death and destruction, we need to be healing and ressurecting.
You may ask me, "preacher. How am I supposed to heal and ressurect?" Well. It's simple. You do it with the power of the Spirit. John 14:12 tells us that we will do the works that Jesus did and greater. God anoints His children with power. We have the power to bring healing. We have the power to ressurect. That doesn't mean we will all be like Smith Wigglesworth, R.W. Schambach, A.A Allen, and others like them and raise people from the dead and heal the sick and disabled. But everyday we have opportunities to ressurect the dead. Everyday you come in contact with at least one person who is spiritually dead. Ressurect them. Everyday we have opportunities to heal people. Everyday you meet many people who are in need of healing. You meet people struggling with depression, anxiety, homosexuality, and other mental/spiritual issues. Heal them. Speak life into them. Plead the blood of Jesus over them. You have the power to heal and ressurect. Use it. His power in you is what makes you a misfit, so live like a misfit.
