We are prisoners in chains. It's up to us to decide what and/or who we're a prisoner in chains to, though. We can be a prisoner in chains to the world and the enemy and the ways thereof, or we can be like Paul, a prisoner of the Lord. (Eph 4:1)
Being a prisoner of the Lord carries a much weightier responsibility, however. Right off the bat Paul sets high standards for us in Ephesians 4. He immediately tells us, "...live a life worthy of the calling you have received." (NIV) How do we live lives worthy of the callings we have received? Or course we must live a life of sanctification and holiness (2 Peter,) but Paul gives us another duty in v2-3. He tells us to be completely humble and gentle, and to deal with one another in love and patience. In this we will preserve the one accord that we are supposed to be in as believers. If we're living sanctified and holy in one accord then we are living a life worthy of the calling we have received.
It is easy to be a prisoner of the enemy. Just live your life however you want. It's hard to be a prisoner of the Lord. It takes hard work and perseverance. However, the easy road leads to destruction, and the hard road leads to great reward.
"“Enter through the narrow gate. For wide is the gate and broad is the road that leads to destruction, and many enter through it. But small is the gate and narrow the road that leads to life, and only a few find it."
Matthew 7:13-14
