They sat in the living room on smooth carpet. They were across from each other, sitting cross-legged in the middle of the room. Ataku was nervous and her mind was racing. What could they possibly be discussing? "As you know my name is Kamodichi Juno" he began. "The tragedy that struck your village struck mine ten years ago. They took down and burned everything, a village elder is the one who saved me. They killed him once he freed me as I was running away, I met someone" he stopped. "You met someone?" Ataku said. "Not exactly it was more like a vision" he said. "A vision" she said. "That vision was you. The voice around you said seek the one of fairy soul for fairy soul the world will be saved. I don't know what a fairy soul is. All I know is the fairy soul will save the world and you have to tell me where this fairy soul is" Kamodichi stated.
"I don't know anything about a fairy soul, you might have had that vision but I can't remember anything as a child" she said. "Wait you can't remember anything" he gasped. "Three years ago I woke up in the forest in pain and my body felt like a rock had crushed it. I don't remember anything except a bunch of villagers finding me. They healed me and nursed me back to health and I helped the village prosper. Hokina became my friend and I lived with her. That was the only life I knew" Ataku stated tears streaked her eyes. "I guess I am forcing this on you. Why don't we get your memory back" Kamodichi suggested.
"Wait, you aren't going to get rid of me because I don't know anything about the fairy soul" she said surprised. "Of course not. You don't have a home anymore, you don't remember 11 years of your life and I told the elder I would protect you. An elder saved me and died because of it. I want to redeem myself and repay it" Kamodichi said. Ataku looked at the floor, "You are very kind considering all the bad mouthing I did to you today" she sighed.
"Don't worry about it" he said. "I am just glad you don't think I am trying to use you" Kamodichi said. "What is the plan though" She asked. "Plan?" He raised an eyebrow. "You are trying to find the fairy soul but I don't know what it is. I don't even remember 11 years of my life so how are we going to save the world" Ataku stated. "Baby steps Ataku. Our priority is getting your memory back then maybe we can piece together how you are correlated with the fairy soul" Kamodichi stated. "Otherwise, you have been under a lot of stress and I suggest you rest" he said.
Kamodichi stood up and walked out of the room. What was the fairy soul? What did it do? And how would it save the world? She lay on the carpet trying to interpret what Kamodichi told her.
She woke up in a meadow, daisies, daffodils and smooth soft grass spread over the plains. Over head she saw a huge vanilla white petal tree dancing in the light wind. Someone was up under it and it sounded like it was crying. Ataku ran towards its crying but once she got there it was only the tree. The tree bristled in the wind:
Fairy soul fairy soul
Follow inside
Fairy soul fairy soul
where the light riseAtaku woke with a jolt scared to death. She looked through the window and saw the moon. It was night, how long had she been sleeping for? She saw she had a blanket on her. She already knew Kamodichi must have done it. Ataku didn't want to go back to sleep. She arose and headed out the cottage. The night air was cool. The stars twinkled in the night sky. She miss stepped and fell down the hill with a starting shriek. This woke Kamodichi up and he ran into the living room to find Ataku not there. He wasn't the only thing that heard her cry. Eyes peered at Ataku from the woods beyond her. They were red and glaring. She saw them and the beast, a wolf, raced to snagged his meal. Kamodichi lifted his sword and swung sending a beam knocking the wolf on his back. Kamodichi jumped down and stabbed through it. The wolf carcass lay still. "You alright" Kamodichi turned to Ataku. "I fell down a hill" she mumbled. "Well we have dinner for a few days" he said. "You eat wolf" she gasped. "food is food" he shrugged his shoulders and dragged the carcass up the hill. "Oh and if you wander through the night take the back door" he said. She got to her feet and ran after Kamodichi with a bunch of complaints. But maybe Kamodichi wasn't so bad....
