Enoch gathered some jars and rushed downstairs and put them in a chest. Miss Peregrine were finishing packing up extra clothing. "I mustn't forget our calendar," Miss Peregrine said. "Could you fetch it from the parlor please, Miss Avocet?" Miss Peregrine asked. Miss Avocet entered the parlor. Miss Peregrine struggled to close and suit case. The Twins sat on it and Miss Peregrine latched it close. "Go and help the others," she told them. They got up and walked up the stairs. Soon enough they ran up the stairs. Miss Peregrine stood up and thought about what she was missing. Just then the doorbell rang and Miss Peregrine went to go answer it.

All the kids rushed down and stood on the stairs. Miss Peregrine walked over and opened the door. Her eyes widened in shocked. A guy with white hair and white eyes and dark skin and a suit was holding a blade to Jake's throat. "Miss Peregrine, what a pleasure to meet you at last!" The man said. Miss Peregrine was shocked. "May we come in?" The man asked. Miss Peregrine didn't want him to but if she refused he might hurt Jake. So Miss Peregrine stepped aside with a glare on her face and let the man in. Miss Avocet peeked her head from behind the parlor door and saw who was at the door. She automatically hid behind the door again.

The door closed behind Mr. Barron as he and Jake entered the house. "Children!" Mr. Barron exclaimed as he saw everyone on the stairs and Emma at the suitcases. "Would you make your way down the stairs, please?" Mr. Barron asked. Everyone began to take one step down. Miss Peregrine spoke up and everyone stopped. "I give the orders in the house, Mr. Barron," Miss Peregrine said. "Not today!" Mr. Barron exclaimed. "You should know that Jake has served his purpose," Mr. Barron reminded her looking at Jake then the blade. "If you value his life, I suggest everyone does as they're told," Mr. Barron said to Miss Peregrine. "Children!" Mr. Barron exclaimed.

"Shush!" Miss Peregrine exclaimed. "No one tells my children what to do!" Miss Peregrine said raising her finger. She turned around to face her children. "Children..." Miss Peregrine began. "Come down here, please," Miss Peregrine said. All the children descended the stairs. "Miss Peregrine..." Mr. Barron began. "I thought I told you to be quiet!" Miss Peregrine snapped facing Mr. Barron. Miss Peregrine turned towards the children again. "Children..." Miss Peregrine said continuing. "For Jake's safety we're going to do what Mr. Barron asks," Miss Peregrine said.

"He wishes to take me with him to his rendezvous in Blackpool," Miss Peregrine continued. "So, for his protection..." Miss Peregrine added. "He'd like me to assume bird form, preferably caged," Miss Peregrine added. "He'd like you to make your way into a lockable room," she added. "Such as the parlor," she said looking at the parlor. "As he won't release Jake if he fears an attack could be mounted upon him once he loses his leverage," she added. She faced Mr. Barron. "Correct, Mr. Barron?" Miss Peregrine asked him. Mr. Barron was shocked that he couldn't find the right words. Before he could say anything Enoch spoke up.

"Ya sacrificing ya self and all of us......" he began. "For Jake?" He asked raising an eyebrow. "Mr. Barron travels with a Hollow, Enoch. Once it arrives here, we're all dead," Miss Peregrine replied. Mr. Barron smiled. "Enoch," Horace whispered. "Only Jake can see them. She means he's our only hope," Horace told them. Miss Peregrine walked over to the parlor door and opened it. Olive was holding Claire's hand and they both entered the parlor. Bronwyn followed after, then Fiona, then Hugh, then Millard. Hugh saw Miss Avocet behind the door. Before he could say anything Miss Avocet put her finger to her mouth signalling for him to not say anything.

Horace entered the parlor. Enoch grabbed Miss Peregrine's hand and have her a tiny smile then he turned his gaze to Mr. Barron and gave him a glare. Mr. Barron gave him a smile. And he let go of Miss Peregrine's and and entered the parlor. Emma tried not to cry. She let out and sniffle before giving Miss Peregrine a hug goodbye. The Twins wrapped their arms around Emma and Miss Peregrine before entering the parlor. A tear trickled down Miss Peregrine's cheek while hugging Emma and The Twins. They entered the parlor and Miss Peregrine began to close the door.

She took one last glance at her children. "It's been my privilege to care for you all," Miss Peregrine said through tears. "Goodbye my children," she said. She closed the door and locked it. She turned towards Mr. Barron and Jake tears rolling down. She walked towards them. "Now let him go!" Miss Peregrine exclaimed. Mr. Barron looked at Miss Peregrine then at Jake. He made his way towards the cage before removing the blade from Jake's throat. He opened the cage door. Miss Peregrine walked towards Jake. "Promise me one thing, Jake," Miss Peregrine said.

"That you will try to look after them all," she added. "I promise," Jake said. Miss Peregrine took huge steps back and raised her hands. She turned into a Peregrine Falcon and flew right in the cage. Mr. Barron closed the cage door and locked it. He turned his attention to Jake while laughing. The children saw the parlor door open and Jake was pushed inside by Mr. Barron. Jake hit his stomach on the back of an orange couch and grunted. Mr. Barron held up his hand and waved goodbye. He turned to leave but he jumped back and shouted, "Boo!" All the kids gasped. And Mr. Barron laughed as he closed the door. He then locked the door and grabbed the cage and left the house.

Claire held onto Olive's arm while Bronwyn and Fiona held hands. The Twins held hands too and Millard stood behind them. Hugh stood by Emma and Enoch stood by Emma with his arms crossed. Horace stood behind Hugh. Miss Avocet still stood by the door. "It's getting dark!" Jake exclaimed. "You won't even be able to see their shadows," Jake said. "We have to stay inside," Jake added looking at a worried Claire. Jake saw Enoch glaring at him. "It's the only place we stand a chance," Jake added looking around at everyone. "He's quite right. Now, where does Miss Peregrine keep her weapon?" Miss Avocet asked.

Enoch had a worried expression on his face before pointing at the next room. "In there," Enoch said. Why does he have to always steal people that I love away from me? Enoch thought. "Let's go," Jake told Emma and Enoch. "Now, all right, children," Miss Avocet said taking charge. "Make sure all the doors are locked, and the windows are latched," Miss Avocet ordered. "Everything must be sealed up tight. Now Quickly! Quickly! Go!" Miss Avocet exclaimed. Bronwyn gave the orange couch and big kick and it flew against the main doors to the parlor. Olive and Fiona went over to the main window and closed them and latched them. Hugh closed a window and latched it as well.

Millard did another window. Enoch, Jake and Emma ran into the next room and ran into the corner. Enoch squatted down and grabbed a couple of tools in a straw basket. "Here," Enoch said handing some to Emma. Jake picked up and garden tool. Just then the phone rang. "Jake, I think tonight, you better answer that," Emma said. She took Jake's garden tool. "Okay," Jake said. He ran off towards the phone. The phone rang again and he picked it up and answered it. "Hello," he said into the receiver. Jake could hear a siren wailing in the background on the other line.

"Hello This is Abe," Abe said into the receiver. "Who's that?" Abe asked. Jake didn't say anything for a while. "You..." Jake began. "You don't know me yet. I'm Jake," Jake said. "Ah, you're new. Welcome to the family, Jake!" Abe exclaimed. "Now I can't talk long. So just tell Miss Peregrine that, I'm at the air base, and I'm fine," Abe added. Jake let out a sigh. "I just wanted to say that I miss you..." Jake said fighting back tears. "And if I disappointed you, I'm sorry," Jake added still trying to fight the tears. "And you're the best grandpa in the world," Jake added. He quickly hung up the phone before he could lose it. Above the phone was Miss Peregrine's crossbow. Jake grabbed it and ran to catch up to the others.
