Marie's POV
The flour baby project was loads of fun, but it was only to prepare us for the RealCare baby project.
The RealCare baby actually cries, screams, goes to the bathroom, sleeps, etc. It's also a partner project, but I was actually scared for this one. We take the baby over to our house for the weekend and we have to watch it with our partner.
The baby is supposed to be the upgraded version of our flour babies, so we still have Melody.
When we got ours in class, it was super freaky.
"It comes with a baby car carrier and everything?" Jade asked staring at the thing.
Mrs Sampson came over and handed everything to Jade.
"Here. You have the baby, a notebook to write entries, and a couple of bottles and pacifiers. Don't worry, I'm sure you'll do fine." She assured Jade.
I grabbed all of the things that we would be needing and headed over to Leo. He seemed like he was in a weird mood, but I ignored it because it was probably nothing.
We have to take notes on the sleeping patterns and behaviors of our baby. We also have to take videos with the baby doing fun things together. I already rented three CDs of Beethoven and Mozart and was ready to introduce music to Melody.
The bell rang and we had to leave for our next class.
"Hey Marie, can we talk?" Leo led me to the abandoned hallway in our school that no one uses since it's been renovated.
I sat against the wall and he sat across from me.
Across from me? Calling me Marie and not "baby" or another nickname?
"I have gotten some responses from colleges, Marie. I have a couple from out of state, like California or Illinois." He looked up to check if I was listening. And I was. Very intently. "I just got one from Juilliard yesterday. I know they don't teach Music Education there so you didn't apply, but they have Music Composition so I applied last minute because I didn't want you to know. I want to compose music for movies and musicals, and maybe write scripts. Listen, the thing is... I don't know where this will take me. But I think it would be best if we cut things off now so we aren't stuck later with a long-distance relationship. Do you understand?" Leo searched my eyes for an answer I wouldn't give.
I felt numb.
Just as things seemed to work out.
When we had Jade and Nate who were finally together. And now everything is ruined.
How could he? We've been together for three years and now he dumps me without warning?
No. He doesn't deserve an answer.
I got up from the floor and stormed out.
"Marie!" Leo called out.
I turned around quickly. "What?" I snapped.
"What about the project? We need to video being together and take Melody places. What about Mozart?" Leo seemed concerned now, but was too late to care.
"We don't need to be together to take care of a kid. I've seen long-distance relationships work out, so this is just you quitting. Even after everything we've been through. But you know what, I'll just see you Monday, and don't bother trying to contact me." I huffed and ran to the front exit.
I left and ran to my car. It was the middle of the day, but I didn't care.
I just needed to run. I could run anywhere. Once in my car, I sat there and cried. Just let everything out. My makeup was a mess, and for once I didn't care.
I texted Jade and told her it was an emergency, so she brought Nate outside and we all got in my car.
I can't believe I'm leaving school. I have no control right now, but I just hope Jade can build me back up after falling from cloud nine.

Marie's POV
Jade took me home and I laid in my bed. Feeling miserable. Both Nate and Jade stayed with me to watch movies, but they went out for lunch and I honestly didn't feel like being a third wheel. Couples make my stomach turn. Luckily their friend Alice stayed with me to keep company.
"Marie?" Someone called.
I sat up and saw none other but Leo Ravin. How dare he come into my house, after all he has put me through today?
I was about to throw something at him, but instead I just laid back down.
Alice walked in a second later. "Hey Marie, do you need anything?" She looked at Leo, also a little confused as to why he was here. Jade told her the whole story and she really hated Leo's guts now.
I looked over at her and ignored Leo. "No, I just needed you to come in and take the garbage out. As in, that piece of shit over there." I gestured to Leo without even looking at him.
Leo walked over to my bed. "Marie, don't be like this. I just wanted to see if you were okay. When Jade told me you were here, I got so--"
"JADE told you to come here?!?" I shouted.
How could she tell him to come visit me?
"Yeah. I got so scared and wanted to see you. I brought you flowers--" Leo handed me a bouquet of fresh picked roses.
"I'm sorry, Alice, but I don't know this man. I think he has the wrong house. Could you please escort him out for me?" Alice nodded.
She walked over to Leo and tried to get him to leave, but he just stared at me.
"Marie, please don't do this to me. Come on. After all we've been through?" Leo pushed past the nurse and came to my bedside. He stroked my hair with one hand and held my face in the other. "I'm so glad to see you're OK. I was so worried, about you baby and I--"
"Don't you touch me or call me baby! How dare you! Get out of my sight." I laid back down, with a splitting headache at this point.
Leo eventually gave up and left. After he was gone, I stopped pretending to be asleep and sat up. Jade rushed in and came over to my bed.
"I heard what happened, and I never told Leo to come. I swear! I told him to do the RealCare baby project by himself and told him you were here and to stay away. I'm so sorry he came here. Are you okay?" Jade sat on my bed.
I didn't respond. I just took the roses that were still in my lap and bashed them against the wall. I watched the petals fall, the stems snap, and before I knew it I was crying.
Jade pulled my head into her chest and let me cry into her chest. I was sobbing, now more sad than angry.
"It's going to be okay, Marie... I promise... We'll make it through this... It will all be alright..." Jade whispered into my ear as she stroked my hair, calming me down.
It will be okay.
We'll make it through this.
It will all be alright.
