Marie's POV:

Valentine's Day. One year ago today, Caroline had told me about a mystery girl who would be asked out by Leo. I got all dressed up only to later discover it wasn't me.

But not this year. I wasn't technically dating Leo anymore, so I would have no date. Aka, no need to dress up.

I wore a red shirt and jeans with my adidas sneakers and called it a day. Makeup was simple and my head was in a messy bun.

Everyone is kind of jittery on Valentine's Day. I noticed it as soon as I got to my bus stop. Every girl wears red or pink, and every guy is praying for the day to end soon.

I brought candy for all of my friends at my lunch table. A couple of girls got roses, and I was genuinely excited for them. The only thing that sucked was that all of my friends felt bad for me today after everything that happened with Leo. Despite how many times I tell them that I can be solo on Valentine's Day, I get looks of pity.

The one person I've noticed is especially giddy today is Jade. I was actually surprised to see her so enthusiastic about the holiday, but what was even more surprising was that she was wearing pink. And makeup.

Jade played with her hair as her eyes skirted around the room. The closer I watched I noticed her nails were also painted.

Who could be making her feel this way?

"Are you alright over there, Jade?" I asked from across the table.

Her eyes locked with mine and she tried to cover up the silence.

"Oh-- yeah I'm fine. Why do you ask?" Jade asked, as if her total transformation wasn't obvious.

I simply gestured at the outfit because I was unsure of what to question first.

"Oh. Is it really that obvious?" She whispered.

"Jade. I've never seen you wear pink in my life. Who do you have your eye on?" I asked.

Jade leaned in very closely in order to give me the details.

"Nate Thurber. Only the baddest bad boy there is."

I rolled my eyes. Bad boys were not my thing. The whole rebel look is hot, but it's the drugs and reckless behavior that I don't like. But, it's right up Jade's alley.

I looked over to where he was sitting with his fellow druggies. He looked stoned as hell today which to me is so gross.

I then turned and saw Jade just about drooling over him. I could see them together.

Before I was about to further question Jade's interesting taste in boys, I got a text message.

Meet me in the choir room in 5. You won't be disappointed.

-Leo

She was, more or less, "saved by the text". I quickly explained the story to my friends and they skeptically let me go. They're still not on Team Leo again yet.

I walked down the music wing to see the chorus room wide open. I peeked my head in to see Leo sitting on a stool with his own guitar.

"Marie! I was starting to think that you weren't coming." He said relieved.

He grabbed another stool and motioned for me to sit.

"Now, I'm not sure if you remember but last year on this day I asked out the wrong girl." Leo said laughing.

I laughed along. "Yeah I remember. How could I forget?"

Leo laughed again and I smiled. Looking at him in this moment made me want to forget everything that happened and go back to us again. His warm brown eyes seemed like they were begging for me to let them back in, but something was holding me back.

Fear. Fear of it happening again.

"So, I decided to make it right by singing to you this Valentine's Day." Leo strummed a c major chord and began strumming the chords to what I instantly recognized as Can't Help Falling In Love.

A smile spread across my face because he knew this was one of my favorite love songs.

As soon as I heard his voice, I was ready to melt again. I saw how easy it was for me to fall for him all over again.

I began to sing the harmony that every soprano knows, and he smiled to hear me sing along.

I realized that was of the things I loved most about our relationship. How easy it was. When we were around each other, we were ourselves and never tried to be anything else. I just wish it could be like that again.

Just as Leo rolled the final chord on his guitar, I got up and walked over to where he was sitting.

"I've been thinking. To me, it's been harder to keep my distance from you so I realized, why am I then? You know, I miss being with you all the time and spending time with your family. We've both made mistakes. Maybe this really can work out." I said taking his hands.

He smiled and took my hands."Let's make it official. Marie, will you be my girlfriend?"

I nodded.

Leo smiled and spun me around. We were both laughing, and I couldn't remember the last time I was this happy.
