Chapter 14 - Bump in the Road

Marie's POV

I walked nervously down the halls to first period. Leo and I didn't speak at all this weekend. I think he's really upset at me for showing up at his family dinner.

I usually see him in this hall, so I walked with my head down so he wouldn't see me.

I felt a tap on my shoulder. I slowly turned around.

It was him.

I looked down.

Leo reached and pushed a piece of hair behind my ear. I looked up at him.

"Hey, I haven't heard from you all weekend. How are you?" He smiled.

"I wasn't sure if you wanted me to talk to you after showing up at family dinner. I really crossed the line." I looked back down at the floor.

Leo took my chin in his hand and lifted it, forcing me to look at him.

"No, Caroline explained that she invited you. It's totally ok. I was just worried that if you met my huge and crazy family, you might be scared off. My plan was to introduce them to you later when you were already sure that you wanted to be with me." Leo looked around after admitting the truth.

I reached up and then pulled his chin as he did mine.

"I've always been sure that I want to be with you. I won't judge you like that." I whispered, remembering that we were in a crowded hallway with prying eyes and ears.

"I know, but when I asked Eliza to semi and she said no, I got scared and decided to play things safe." Leo confessed.

That was one of the things I love about Leo. He is so honest.

"Oh, and by the way, my mom wants to you start coming to every family dinner. Everyone loved you, and wants you to stay around." Leo smiled and took my head in his hands. He kissed my forehead and we started walking together to my class.

"I would hope that you also want me to stick around." I laughed.

It's so crazy to think that just weeks ago, I was staring at Leo from across the classroom, fantasizing about what it would be like to date him.

And so weeks went by.

Marie and Leo continue to date, and they spend plenty of time with the Ravin family.

Everything seemed to be going well for Marie.

But.

She is about to go through a part of her life that will change her forever.

Her world will soon be flipped upside down. Will Leo stand by her, or leave her to suffer all by herself?
