Marie's POV
Thank goodness the day was almost over.
My first day as a freshman felt the same as all the rest, stressful and a flash back to reality.
It was the second to last period of the day, and I just had to find Mrs. Lewond's English Honors class.
807. 807. 807.
I FINALLY get to class, admittedly a few minutes late.
I find one of the last available seats and scan the room.
Ugh. That girl is so fake. Ew that guy used to pick his nose. I'll never get over that.
And then I saw him.
Leo Ravin.
I realized I had been staring when our eyes met.
I looked away quickly to register that he would be in my class all year.
We first met in drama club. Two years ago. He was such a fun guy, joking around backstage. He had a really good voice, but didn't like to talk about it for some reason. We both had relatively good roles, but were more in for the fun than competing for who could have the biggest part.
But here he is now. Sitting in my English Honors class. Two seats away. The same brown eyes and brown hair.
Oh boy.
This is going to be distracting.
-----
Thankfully I got a lot better at hiding it over the next few weeks so he didn't catch me staring.
One thing that I hadn't noticed on that first day of school was how crazy my English Honors teacher is. Her classroom is decorated like a fantasy land. Valentine's Day decorations hang from the ceiling and sugar skulls hang on the walls. Posters of punk rock bands cover the walls.
Today in class we would be having a reading celebration with a Valentine's Day theme. But before I could go to English Honors, I had chorus class, my favorite.
Our chorus teacher, Ms Reisner, is kind of like the grandmother you always wanted. She lets you do whatever you want, as long as it doesn't harm the "family bond" we form in choir. She told us yesterday that we would have a long term sub starting today because she was having surgery. So now, I was on my way to meet this substitute.
I walked into the chorus room and I was one of the first kids there. I sat in my usual spot in the soprano section.
Everyone eventually came and settled into class. There was a feeling of anxiety across the classroom.
The chorus room office door opened and out stepped a young brunette with long brown curls and brown eyes. She had a charming smile that was contagious.
The weirdest thing was that I felt as if I knew her. I was sure that I haven't seen her before today, which made the feeling even more strange. Maybe she looked like an actress or singer that I know, but I just can't put my finger on her.
I must have reverted back to my old ways of staring again because the substitute decided to clarify for me and a few others in the class. The majority of us seemed to be trying to place her from somewhere. She seemed to be prepared for this confusion.
"Hi. I'm Ms. Ravin. Some of you may know me from my brother."
There was a brief pause.
"I'm Leo Ravin's sister."
