A tall, snobby looking kid strode through the school doors. His dark hair poofed out from his head in a glorious mane, and his deep purple shirt complimented the dark, chocolatey tone of his skin.
No one bothered to pay him too much attention.
That is, until he bumped into the firebrand himself.
He was pushing confidently through the crowded hallway, not bothering to apologize when he bumped shoulders with others. This got him many dirty looks, but no one said anything.
Except Alex.
When the boy shoved past him, knocking the books out of his hands, he was not letting it go.
"Hey!" he complained, but the boy didn't pause.
Gritting his teeth, Alex picked up his books (there were only two), and ran after the other boy.
"What do you think you're doing?!" Alex planted himself in front of the boy, but he was shoved to the side.
"Get out of my way, filthy Latino!" the boy spat.
That was too far.
Alex slapped him across the cheek.
The boy glared at him for a long moment, before trying to push past him.
But Alex wouldn't let him through."Too scared to fight me, huh?" He taunted.
"Unlike you, I will not lower myself to the state of physical retaliation." The boy spoke with a lofty voice that sickened Alex.
"Wimp," he growled.
"What's your name, kid?"
"None of your business."
"Well I'm Thomas Jefferson. You may have heard of me-"
Alex roled his eyes. "Nope."
"-And let me assure you, I have many friends in this school who won't hesitate to defend me."
Alex snorted. "Need others to do your dirty work, do you?"
"No, but I believe you will find yourself vastly outnumbered if you mess with me."
"Ha! In your dreams."
Jefferson grinned smugly. "George Washington, John Adams, Angelica Schuyler. And most importantly: James Madison. Those names mean anything to you?"
Alex laughed. "Half of them are my friends."
"Well I think you'll find that'll be changing soon."
"As if."
By now they had gathered quite a crowd. Washington pushed his way through.
"What's going on here?" He frowned at the sight of the other boy. "Jefferson? What are you doing here?"
The boy, Jefferson, smirked. "On a visit with my Grandparents. The school's letting me come here for the next few months. Now. . . Help me take the garbage out?" He gestured at Alex.
That was the end of Alex's patience.
He lunged at Jefferson, his fist colliding with the boy's face. But he only got a few punches in before he was dragged away by Washington and Mulligan.
"Let me go!" he yelled, struggling against their grip. But they held him fast. Next thing he knew, he was pushed up against the wall, with Washington to deal with.
"Alex, you need to get yourself under control!"
"Did you hear what he called me?" Alex breathing came fast and heavy, and he strained against the hands that held him, trying to break away.
"Yes, but-"
"Filthy Latino! That's what he said! Well he's a freaking ba-"
"Alex!" Washington shook him. "No matter what he called you, you can't just go around punching people!"
Alex snorted, but didn't say anything, relaxing under Washington's grip.
"Take a walk. You need some fresh air." He pushed Alex towards the doors.
Alex stormed off.
He was almost to the doors when he passed Eliza. She took one look at his face, and the smile that normally made its home in her lips dropped.
"Alex? What's wrong?" Her voice was full of concern.
He ignored her, trying to push past, but she laid a gentle hand on his arm. He shook it off.
"Alex, calm down. What happened?"
"Get away from me Eliza! You wouldn't understand!" Not looking at her, he continued walking towards the doors, and she followed.
"I might. You can tell me."
"No! You wouldn't! You're just a stupid, good for nothing girl!"
Eliza fell back a little, looking hurt. But she didn't let up.
"But I could be good for something! Just let me try!"
"No! You'll just get in the way, and mess everything up! You're worthless, and a burden to have around! I wish I'd never met you!"
Eliza stopped walking. Tears filled her eyes. "Fine! See if I care what happens to you Hamilton!"
With that, she turned around and ran.
Alex stomped out the door, too mad to care.
