The next day, Alex and Eliza arrived at the same time. They waved good morning to each other and walked into the building together.
As they were walking down the hallway, Eliza opened her backpack to show Alex a drawing she had been working on. Just then, someone bumped into Eliza and sent her sprawling on the ground, her school supplies spilling out of her open backpack.
It was Jefferson.
"Whoops," he said, and kept walking.
Alex helped Eliza to her feet, and then whirled around to call after Jefferson.
"What were you thinking?!"
Jefferson turned around to face Alex, rolling his eyes. "Seriously Hamilton? It's not like she's hurt or anything."
"How would you know?" Alex countered. "You didn't even stop to make sure."
Eliza laid a restraining hand on his arm. "Look Alex, it's not a big deal."
"No," he said to her. "I'm not letting him treat you like this."
"What do you want me to do?" sneered Jefferson. "Say I'm sorry?"
"No, I want you to pick up her books."
"Are you kidding me?" Jefferson scoffed.
"No."
"Alex, I can pick them up. . ."
"No Eliza. He's going to do it."
"And why am I?"
Alex smirked. "Because if you don't, Angelica will hear about it."
Jefferson visibly paled. Without another word, he picked up Eliza's books, and even carried them to her locker for her.
He left without another word.
"Thank you," Eliza said to Alex as they walked to class together.
"Of course," he replied. "That Jefferson needs to be out in his place."

Later that day, Alex saw Burr and Angelica in the hallway. They were standing off to the side, talking.
Alex frowned slightly.
What was that about?
They seemed to be getting progressively closer over the past few weeks.
He shook his head and kept walking.
Whatever it was was between the two of them.
A/N: Shorter chapter. Oops. But I have a really good one planned for next week so stay tuned!
What do you think will happen in the next chapter?
Vote and comment if you're excited! (I am, lol)
