The look on Eliza's face haunted Alex the rest of the day and late into the night.
He lay on his back in his bed, staring up at the ceiling. The clock read 12:41, and he couldn't for the life of him get to sleep.
Eliza.
She was mad at him about something. What had Burr told her? Was she mad at him because of what he said?
He has never regretted something as much as he did what he had said to Eliza.
He was such an idiot. Why couldn't he have kept his stupid mouth shut? Why couldn't he have just let her calm him down? Why why why?
Anger burned in his heart. Anger at Jefferson for coming here and ruining everything; anger at Burr for whatever he had said to Eliza. Anger at himself for hurting her.
Tears sparked in his eyes and he angrily wiped them away. He didn't deserve this! He had always been good at school, he had good friends, he was a nice enough person. Why was this happening to him?
He brought his hands up to cover his eyes as another tear made its way down his cheek.
This wasn't what was supposed to happen!
None of this should have happened.
He didn't deserve this!
But, he realized, he really didn't have it too bad. The only thing in his life really that was going wrong was his relationship with Eliza.
And that was his fault.
All his fault.
His fault.
His.
No one else's.
He ran his hands down his face.
Maybe he should apologize. Maybe it would be better that way.
His stupid pride.
Stupid.
Stupid.
Stupid.
Why did he ever get himself into this mess?
A/N: Sorry for the short chapter! I realized I made a mistake: it's next week I won't be updating. So. . . Surprise update!
Do you think Alex should apologize? (That's a stupid question, I know what y'all think about Alex and his pride. :D)
