As you enter through the door to your next class, you lay your eyes upon Louise Laflamme. That girl has a sense of humour evolved to get extents, and her sarcasm is fatal. She's a pretty cool girl overall, and her messy bun and sweatpants suited her well. Her eyes lock with yours, you both give each other a little head nod. You weren't close enough to be considered friends, but you were still kind whenever you saw her.
Kai enters the classroom not to far behind you, and as her eyes shift to him her polite expression turns into a scowl. You assume Kai must've been his usual jerk self and done something rude, but you don't ask. If Louise thought poorly of him, then he probably deserved it.
After the bell rings and class starts, you can hear Kai gossiping about something to his friends. His friends start hollering while he continues, and the teacher shushes them. One of Kai's friends leans across his desk to whisper to Louise. "Is it true that you're as easy as Kai says you are?"
You can see the moment she understand what he said, and she gets mad. Instead of causing a scene, she just smirks with an ice cold expression and tells the group "I'm not, but I'm sure Kai is. Just this past week I've seen him with three different girls behind the bleachers."
Kai goes pale as his friends laugh and pat him on the back. Kai just plays it off, but he becomes tense when Louise pulls out a piece of paper and starts writting. She hands the note to Kai, and after he reads it his slight nerves turn into panic. He excuses himself from the room, ignoring the teacher's protests, and hastily shoves the note into his pocket.
Only Bay notices when it falls to the floor, Kai already in the hallway. She debates whether or not to go after him, and a minute later she stands up, bending down to pick up the note on her way out. She knew that most people disliked him, but underneathe all of his arrogance she knew Kai was a good kid.
Kai had crumpled the page, so she didn't open it; she wanted to respect his privacy. However, her curiosity won out, and she smoothed the note before reading Louise's crisp cursive.
' They assume I meant girls like I said, but you and I know otherwise, right? Don't worry though, your secret is safe with me...well, as long as you stop spreading those stupid rumours.'
Bay didn't know what that meant, but she didn't have time to think about it because Kai was sitting down against the wall in front of her. Silently, she sat down beside him and handed him back the note. She wanted to make him feel better but had no idea what to say, so she took two suckers out of her pocket and handed him one.
Kai finally looked up at her and grabbed the sucker harshly without saying anything. The two of them sat there, lollipops disolving on their tongues, and by the time they were finshed Kai's mood had lifted considerably.
The bell rang, so Bay stood up and headed to the cafeteria after saying bye to Kai, who was still just sitting there. He did give her a small smile though, so that was something.
In the cafeteria people had already gotten their food and sat down, like you, Kahoot, and Phoenix. Bay joined you guys just as Phoenix picked up a fish bowl from under the table and plopped it on the table.
"Guys, meet my baby marimo. He's the cutest fucking thing ever," announced Phoenix. He turns in his seat to face you. "Actually...y/n's marimo. I know you wanted a pet, and since mine split in two, I figured you could have this one."
In all honesty, you were not expecting to recieve a pet algae today, but Phoenix is full of surprises. He looks at you expectantly and you thank him for the gift. He smiles before reaching under the table into his bag to grab something else.
In his hands are a pair of sunglasses that he throws to Kahoot, who barely catches them.
"What're these for?" asks Kahoot.
"I told you I had a gift for you, and those are it," Phoenix explains while gesturing with his hands. "It'll complete the whole primary colour look you have going on."
The glasses had one red lense and one blue one. As Kahoot tried them on, you had to admit that it did match his sweater and shoes in a completely dorky and Kahoot kind of way. Kahoot thanks him just as you did, and the four of you chat about other things. Bay mentions a party she can't attend because she has to look after her little sister, Camille, which then prompts Phoenix to tell her that he'll miss it too to hang out with them.
Bay asks you and Kahoot if you'll be going, and you say that you're not; you have a test in the morning, and you don't really want to fail it.
"I would go, but I won't know anyone," says Kahoot sadly.
Parties had never really been your scene anyways, but it looked like Kahoot really wanted to go. In a split second decision, you speak up.
"Actually, I'll go with you, if you want," you offer to him. Kahoot's face lights up, and Bay tells you guys the details about when and where. Even though you were slightly nervous, you were sure that tonight was going to be interesting.
