The walk home is uneventful. You both part with awkward gestures on your front steps, Kahoot heading home once he knows that you're safely inside. That night you lie awake, replaying what happened. Kahoot had finally made a move, so what did this mean for you two? Does he like you? Eventually you fall asleep, questions upon questions swirling through your head.

***

Today seems like another day for un-answered questions. You want answers, but the only way to get those is to ask. What's up with you and Kahoot? Does Mr. Adams dislike you in particular? And how on earth do you take care of the green moss ball/pet marimo Phoenix gave you? At least for the last question, you can consult google. The others will have to wait.

At least now you have something to ponder about in class. It's boring as usual, but it gives you an answer. Every time your attention drifts, Mr.Adams questions you with things that were barely relevant or almost impossible to answer. It annoys you to great extents, especially when no one else is receiving the same treatment. But now, it begs a new question:  why?

Interestingly enough, Kahoot is getting the same amount of attention. The only thing is, it's very positive attention, the exact opposite of yours. It's almost as if... Mr. Adams is fond of him. Weird.

The bells rings and the rest of the morning proceeds as usual. Lunch comes around, and the cafeteria is serving actual good pizza for once. You and your three friends sit at your table and chat.

"Hey y/n, what'd you get on that English thing we did?" Kahoot asks.

You bristle and scrunch your face up in dismay.

"What?"

You explain to him the thing with the punched holes, and while Bay and Phoenix just look midly annoyed he gets quite mad.

"What? No way! That's so stupid..." annnnnd his opinion goes on for about five minutes until everyone is obviously tired of that discussion. He ends his rant with a soft "I'll show him" and a very pouty face.

Throughout the whole lunch break you and Kahoot don't mention the party. You were going to, but you didn't want to in case it made things awkward. I will after school, you tell yourself.

After school comes around quicker than you wanted it to, and you exit the front doors with Kahoot by your side. You drift towards each other like magnets, the same way you've been doing after school for awhile now. Whether or not you decided to walk home together doesn't really matter; you both tend to anyways.

Both of you don't speak, content with just listening to the noises around you. It was getting chillier, but people were still outside working and living. Children ran through the streets accompanied by their friends and branches from the surrounding trees rustled.

During that time of silence you try to find courage to talk to Kahoot with, but he speaks before you do.

"Do you need to do anything absolutely necessary as soon as you get home?" he asks suddenly, a playful glint in his eyes.

"No..." you reply cautiously.

"Great! Would you wanna, maybe, come to the Skyline diner with me right now?" he asks, stoping and turning towards you. He looks equally confident and nervous while awaiting your reply, and you find him in his current state adorable.

"Just the two of us? Right now?"

"Sure, why not?"

Why not, you echo to yourself, nodding to him. You smile and grab his hand, turning both of you around in the right direction. He doesn't say anything about the hand holding, but a big smile spreads across his face and his cheeks turn slightly red as your hands stays where you placed it on his.

The same waitress from last time was there again. It turns out her name is Lily, which you can tell from the new name tag she is wearing. She recognizes you when you walk in and places menus down on your usual table. You both slide into your seats

"So, it's kind of early for supper...wanna just get milkshakes?" Kahoots asks.

"Sounds good."

The atmosphere is awkward. You order a vanilla milkshake while he gets a chocolate one, which you both sip on waiting for the tension to slip away. Suddenly, you think of an idea, and get up to walk towards the old jukebox situated on the far wall of the diner whilst Kahoot watches you curiously. Putting in 25 cents, you chose a song that's a mixture of trance/techno/nightcore, because you remember Kahoot telling you it was his favourite kind of music. The sound jets out of the speakers, and upon hearing it Kahoot's face lights up. Success. You return to the table.

"You do like this song, right?" you ask.

He nods. "Did you pick it for me?" he questions in disbelief.

You shrug. "Yeah, you mentioned liking stuff like this."

He's astonished that you remember, and it makes him really happy. Kahoot proceeds to tell you why he likes it: When he was younger, his parents bought him a really cheap DJ set for him to play with, which he made really distasteful songs with.

"The songs were really horrible back then. I still make some now, just as a hobby, but I like to think it's improved."

It isn't awkward anymore. The conversation flows back and forth, and you both chat about your childhoods, funny stories, and things you do for fun. While you talk, you catch sight of Phoenix, Bay, and Kai walking home together through the window. Bay and Kai are chatting, but Phoenix just seems to be sulking. His disgruntled face makes you laugh; he obviously doesn't enjoy Kai's presence.

Before you know it, your glasses are empty, it's half-past five, and you and Kahoot both need to head home for supper. Kahoot insists on paying for the milkshakes, and you oblige as long as he lets you pay the tip. The walk home together feels very short, and you both wish it could've been longer.

"That was fun," he tells you once you're in front of your house.

"Yeah," you agree. A pause. "Maybe we could do it again sometime?"

He smiles. "I'd love that."

Kahoot steps closer and kisses you lightly on the cheek, before turning away and walking home. You feel warm.
