The date was a spur-of-the-moment thing.
The weekend had arrived, and Kahoot was bored. Time for an adventure. He called you up around lunch, and ever since then you've both been exploring the local areas and establishments. You guys end up stopping for a snack at this really snazzy cafe, but nothing beats the Skyline diner. Oh well.
You know that Kahoot is really interested in architecture, so while he's not paying attention, you look up directions to the local museum: Escratz. Most of the stuff displayed in it looks fake, but whatever. The old building has a really interesting design, so you know Kahoot'll love it...hopefully.
"Did we have to pay for entry, or..."
"Kahoot? I think we just snuck into a museum."
You had found the place without trouble. As expected, Kahoot got really excited and rushed inside. There was a long line of people away from the centre, but it looked like they were just checking their items for holding.
Thinking it was free, you and Kahoot walked right through the second main entrance there. It was a really big place, so to avoid getting lost Kahoot went to go check for a map. While he did this, a guard went to stand near where you just walked in. A family walked up to him and had tickets scanned, and that's when you realized it probably wasn't free (this may or may not be based on the time I accidentally snuck into the ROM in Toronto...oops).
"I think we were supposed to pay for tickets," you clarify.
"Oh. Whoooopsie daisieeeees," he says, lifting up his shoulders. "Wait...is that illegal?" Kahoot looks worried.
"Probably," you say, thinking.
He considers this. "Should we leave?"
"Nah." Might as well make the best of it.
The museum is separated into four main parts: dinosaurs, ancient cultures, recovered sculptures, and some new sculptures as well. You expect Kahoot to head straight for the dinosaurs, but instead he wants to see the recent statues. It's actually not even the statues he wants to see, but rather the room that they're in.
The glass ceiling forms a dome overhead. Tiny specks of gold are embedded inside of it, casting glowing fragments of light into the room. The outside walls are pretty simple, but those separating the interior are a different matter. They twist together in ways that shouldn't be possible.
Honestly, you're more focused on a sculpture of a dragon composed entirely of gears, but Kahoot has other things on his mind.
"Look at that ceiling! And - holy moly - that wall!"
"You look like you're having fun," you chuckle.
"Ahhhhh this is amazing!" He engulfs you in a hug. "I'm so glad we ended up here."
"Me too." You hug him back. When he pulls away, you give him a peck on the cheek. He beams.
"Hey, check it out," you say pointing. "Is that Louise?"
"Yeah, I think so." He cups his hands over his mouth. "Hey, Louise!"
She turns around, looking for who called out her name. She spots us and waves. Kahoot motions for her to come over. After saying something into a device on her hip, she heads over.
"Hey Kahoot. Y/n." She nods in greeting. She's wearing the uniform of the museum's workers.
"I didn't know you worked here," you inquire. Then again, you don't talk to Louise much, so it's no surprise that you didn't know. Maybe you should try to more often; she seems cool. Maybe a bit mysterious, sure, but still cool.
"Gotta get money somehow," Kahoot mumbles in the background.
She smiles. "Haha, yep. I want a new guitar, but I don't have the sufficient funds so... here I am." She shrugs. "It's just a side job."
"Oh, you have another job too?" you ask.
"No...uh...I just meant-" before she can finish, Kahoot cuts her off.
"Hey, do you by any chance know who built this place?"
She looks confused. "Uh, no?"
"Darn."
You guys chat for a little bit before taking off to explore again. You go to the ancient sculptures, the cultural exhibit, and finally to where the dinosaur bones are displayed. You find it endearing how Kahoot couldn't care less for the things inside of the building compared to the building itself.
The barrier that separates the t-rex and the triceratops is made out of metal poles that criss-cross. Intrigued, Kahoot goes up to it and a climbs up a few steps because yeah.
"Hey, you're not allowed to be up there!" a guard shouts to him.
Kahoot jumps down immediately. "Sorry, sir!"
The guard makes his way over to us. "May I see your tickets, please?" he demands.
Oh, bother. Before you can react, Kahoot grabs your hand and starts running.
"Kahoot!" you chide.
You make it outside in record time, but when you turn around you're startled to find the guard still chasing you guys.
"Run!" you hiss to Kahoot.
The guard gives up half-way, deciding it's not worth it. Both of you keep running regardless, having too much fun to stop. You weaves through buildings and streets, until finally stopping in an alley to catch your breathe.
"That was wild," he says breathlessly, hands on his knees.
"I thought we were gonna die," you whisper jokingly. He puts his hands on his head and starts laughing. You both breathe deeply, leaning against the brick wall in the alley for a couple minutes.
"Think the coast is clear?" Kahoot questions.
"It'd better be."
You and Kahoot had spent hours in the museum, so it was dark out now. The streets are mostly empty this time of evening, and there's not much going on. You both walk on the sidewalk, lightly bumping into each others shoulders to show affection. You stumble upon an ice cream place.
Kahoot stands up straight. "Ooooo, ice cream!" He sounds like a five year, and looks like one too, his eyes filled with hope at the prospect of getting some sweet sugary goodness. "Wanna get some, y/n?"
Uh, yeah: it's ice cream. Kahoot ends up getting a primary coloured flavour called "superman," while you decide on getting chocolate (superman ice cream is real good btw. 10/10 would recommend).
You and Kahoot walk alongside each other on the sidewalk, eating your ice cream. You're pleased to find that it tastes really good. The night is nice too, not overly cold or warm, perfect for exploring.
"Hey, look at that!" Kahoot points to a tilted set of stairs near the water side you ended up at. It has a circular platform on top encased by walls, and a very modern touch to it. It's a lookout.
"C'mon," you tell him, already going to the steps.
Atop, the view is breathtaking. You're able to see most of the city and the trees beyond, which seem endless. You stand there admiring it. Kahoot joins you, slipping your hand into his. Suddenly tired, you lay your head on his shoulder.
The city at night is beautiful, all of its lights illuminated. Despite that, the only thing that has your attention is Kahoot, who is glowing just as bright. If you were day and Kahoot were these lights, you'd stay hidden away forever just so that he'd shine.
