You slam the photo down onto the table.
"Wait, is that-"
"No way."
"...Cam?"
Occupying your usual booth at the Skyline diner are you, Kahoot, Phoenix, and Bay. You're all sipping on milkshakes, curtesy of you, but no one is sucking on their straws anymore.
"Are you sure that Mr.Adams had that?" Phoenix questions, eyebrow raised.
"Yes, I'm positive."
He stares at the photograph, then scoffs. "Then what a fucking amateur. You're showing us because you think it's a lead, right?"
You pause. "I mean, I guess?"
"Okay, but even if he did take her, why the hell would he carry around a photo of her?" Phoenix argues. "Either he wants to be caught, he doesn't have her, or he's just an idiot."
Kahoot interjects. "Sometimes he seems like a dick though. Maybe he dropped it on purpose just to get a rise out of us." He sips on his milkshake.
"Why would he do that?" Bay asks.
"For fun, duh."
After Mr. Adams class, the photo burned a hole in your pocket for the rest of the school day. You really wanted to show the others, but needed to wait until you were all mostly alone. Hence the impromptu meet-up at the diner.
You sigh. "Whatever, it doesn't really matter. Just thought I should show you guys."
"Don't get me wrong, it's neat you found that, but I don't think it means anything," declares Phoenix, nails drumming on the table. "You say he had it, but we don't really know that for sure."
You nod in agreement, but only because you don't feel like arguing. Both Bay and Kahoot remain silent and still.

Bay makes her way to Kahoot's house, her boots kicking pebbles as she goes. It's not like she could go ask Phoenix to help with this, because he doesn't really seem convinced, nor do you. Once she's there, she sends Kahoot a quick text to come outside. He doesn't take long.
Sipping up his sweater, Kahoot shuts the door behind him. He shuffles towards her in Teletubbies slippers.
"What's up?"
Bay wastes no time. "Okay, so like, you know how y/n showed us that picture? I want to look into it. I'm going over to Mr.Adams house right now to check it out, can you come with? It's just that I really want to know why he had that photo and if there's any chance he has her I have to find out I can't just -"
Kahoot cuts her off, lifting up his hand. "Woah. Right now?"
She nods. "Yeah. No time like the present." Bay bounces on her heels, looking hopeful.
"But it's like," Kahoot checks his wrist, even thought there's no watch there. "9 o'clock at night."
"So? That's good. Less chance of him being up and about and catching us."
Kahoot seems to consider it. But spying, or even outright confronting, is more of a thing to do when you have energy. Not fun to do when all you want is to curl up on the couch and watch How It's Made.
"Normally I'd be up for this, but I don't feel like crashing a teacher's house right now." Kahoot gives her an apologetic look. "I think I'm gonna pass."
Bay eyes widen. She really thought he was going to come with her, but she doesn't want to waste any time. "Suit yourself," she says, shoving her hands in her pockets and already walking away. "Have a goodnight, Kahoot." Though she's a little thrown, the last part is said kindly.
"You too."

Most of Bay's decisions are impulsive. She once randomly bought a previously owned handwritten journal off of e-Bay for 200$, just because it seemed cool, and she also decided that she was going to become a songwriter after hearing a particularly inspiring ukulele duet on youtube. Point is, most of her decisions aren't thought through. She just goes with it. Which is why she's now standing on the sidewalk in front of Mr. Adams house, debating whether or not to go any closer.
The house probably only has two bedrooms, judging by the size of it. It's not a cozy kind of small, but more of an 'I don't get payed nearly enough money so this is the type of dump I have to settle for' kind. The faded white paint on the outer walls is chipped, a border of chartreuse grass invades the house's bottom edges, and there's a screen door in the front that is utterly rusted. It gives Bay the impression that this whole house belongs in a junkyard, not in the middle of a decent neighbourhood.
Grass squelches under her feet as Bay makes her way along the house's left side. A single window is illuminated with a soft light, so Bay ducks down and presses her back against the outside walls. She slides closer, standing up just enough to peer inside the window.
Inside, a teenage boy is rummaging through a drawer. His hair is slicked back and flattened down, which is probably the reason why Bay didn't recognize him right away. He turns his head to the side, checking another drawer, and Bay drops down so fast it's like gravity had increased tenfold.
With more caution, she tentatively looks back up inside. Upon seeing who it is, she grumbles to herself, equal parts shocked and outraged. The boy is Kahoot.
She stands up completely and tosses a nearby pebble at the window. The sound it makes isn't actually that loud, but it makes Kahoot jumps and slam the drawer shut. He sees Bay in the window, pastel-pink hair tucked into a dark hood on her head, and he looks at her nervously before going to open up the window.
"Kahoot, what are you thinking!" she whispers loudly. "I thought you said you weren't coming. And why are you inside? That wasn't the plan!" Her voice mixes with the cars passing by and the classical music playing softly inside the room.
His brows furrow, and he puts his elbows on the windowsill. "Who's Kahoot?"
