1 week later
Cas double-checked the plain black clock. Dean would be back in 2 hours, so he had plenty of time to make the pie he hoped Dean would love.
Rolling the dough out he'd pre-made, no store-bought pastry for him, he cursed as he got flour all over his black Vans. Throwing the crust into the oven to blind bake, he quickly began making the cherry filling.
Racking his brains to remember if Dean liked it sweet or sour, he went with sweet and added another scoop of sugar. Dean, had a killer sweet tooth right?
Taking the crust out of the oven he fanned it vigorously, poured the filling in, and placed it into the freezer.
As the pie cooled, he began to clean the counter. His phone switched to the last song on his playlist and he smiled widely as he heard the opening notes.
Oh I'm a mess right now
Inside out
Searching for a sweet surrender
But this is not the end
I can't work it out
How going through the motions
Going through us
And oh I've known it for the longest time
And all of my hopes
All of my own words
Are all overwritten on the signs
But you're on my road
Walking me home
See the flames inside my eyes
It burns so brightly I wanna' feel your love
Easy baby maybe I'm a liar
But for tonight I wanna' fall in love
Put your faith in my stomach
Cas sang along to the song, spinning around in his admittedly frilly apron. If he wasn't so absorbed in the song, he probably would've noticed Dean quietly enter the dorm room, slip his black bag onto the floor, and lean against the wall, watching his friend. ( Although Dean wished he could call him more than a friend)
I messed up this time
Late last night
Drinking to suppress devotion
With fingers intertwined
I can't shake this feeling now
We're going through the motions
Hoping you'd stop
And ohhh I've only caused you pain
I know but all of my words will always below
Of all the love you spoke
When you're on my road
Walking me home
Pulling the pie out from the freezer, he piped on some whipped cream, delicately placed a few cherries on top, all the while singing. And singing amazingly. In fact, the meadow green-eyed boy was astounded by how well he sang.
See the flames inside my eyes
It burns so bright I wanna' feel your love
Easy baby maybe
I'm a liar
But for tonight I wanna' fall in love
Put your faith in my stomach
And for how long, I love, my lover
For how long I love my lover
And now, now, for how long, long I love my lover
Now, now, for how long, long I love my lover
Now now, for how long, long I love my lover (and I feel loved)
Now now, for how long, long I love my lover
The song faded out and Cas put the pie on the flawlessly clean counter with a flourish. Pirouetting to face the door, he let out a squeak of shock. His entire face turned red. And I mean red. As red as blood, and trust me, Cas knew how dark red blood could become.
"Wow, Castiel. That's some voice." Dean smiled., his Cupid bows lips parting to reveal perfect teeth. Cas spluttered out a thank you, blushing from the tips of ears to his toes.
"Castiel relax. It's not like I videoed it." Dean laughed. Cas smiled gratefully.
"Oh. Wait. No. I did." Dean pulled out his phone and showed Cas the video.
He expected Cas to try and grab the phone, maybe even tackle him for it. (He was honestly kind of hoping Cas tackled him for it, any chance to get close to the blue eyes boy.) He did not expect the dejected slump of Cas' shoulders, the light go out of his aqua eyes, and the un-surprised, accepting way he said the following words.
"Oh. Have fun with it. I'll start looking for other schools." He forced a smile and attempted to slip past Dean and into the hall. Dean stopped him by putting a muscled arm out and pushing Cas back to his original position.
"What do you mean?" Dean asked, concern lacing his words.
"Well, I expect you'll want to share that with the world, so I'll start looking for other schools, so had to avoid the jeers and slurs." Cas smiled sadly.
"What?! No, I would never do that. I just like to have it. It's you while your happy. I love y- it when you're happy." Dean swallowed the words he truly wanted to say. Cas smiled, genuinely this time.
"Thank you Dean. Would you like your pie now?"
"Oh my gosh yes! You made pie?! Thank you so much Castiel, it smells amazing." Dean ran over to the treat.
Cas paused in the doorway.
"Hey Dean?"
"Yeah Castiel?"
"Call me Cas."
The smile that lit up Dean's face made Cas feel something he hadn't felt in years.
