Aliyah's POV
I woke up and found Amina, Isabelle and Berenice staring down at me.
"She is awake!" Amina shouted. Berenice gave me a glass of water. I tried to drink it but couldn't. I tried to remember what happened but for a few minutes I was just blank.
"What happened?" I finally asked.
"You don't remember?" Isabelle sounded so concerned.
"I uhh umm," I sat up and looked at the three worried faces. I closed my eyes and tried to remember.
The events started coming back slowly.
"Aliyah!"
I remembered Haytham calling my name.
"Haytham!" I shouted. Isabelle held her chest and took a deep breath.
"Thank God!" She said and Amina laughed at her. My head was spinning and I felt myself go numb.
"He found me, but why?" I said and Isabelle pulled me for a hug. I was literally shaking.
"Girls, can you leave us for some minutes." Isabelle asked and they left.
"You wanna see him?" Isabelle said after a long silence.
"No."
"He wants to see you." Isabelle said and I started shaking my head. I put my head on her lap and cried it out.
After minutes of stupidly crying like a baby I took a shower and sat on my bed. The month of Ramadhan was almost here. I was truly excited despite my problems. Isabelle left me on my own, you know the anti-hugging rule also comes with anti-emotions manual. She is so good at keeping hers in check.
I was really hoping I was in state of cleanliness. There is nothing I needed at that moment more than talking to my Lord. I couldn't pray at that moment so I simply tuned on the TV. I couldn't find anything interesting that could take my mind off him.
Give 25$ and save one Syrian refugee from freezing to death. The headlights read and I decided to watch some more.
What I saw was horrifying. Buildings destroyed, mothers crying their eyes out and people searching for their kids under the buildings."Assad's regime has killed my baby. My baby. He was barely four months old. Look at what they have done to my home." A woman stood in front of the camera and shouted. I felt tears stinging my eyes again. I took my phone and I was about to the send the money when a familiar voice spoke. I froze, afraid to look up.
"...fashion magazines, Netflix ,fairy tales. Werewolves movies. A dreamy guy and perfect girl. Has the world gone blind? Were did humanity go?
All we do is run around in confusion, just chasing after illusions. SubhanaAllah, it's so sad, we can cry over fantasy but reality doesn't shake us. You cry when the hero in a movie dies but don't react when a Syrian child is killed in cold blood. Where is humanity? What happened to our hearts?"
I was drowning in my own tears. I looked at my TV screen and saw him. He looked older and of course he didn't shave. His hair and beard made him look like a lion.
"We eat pizzas with special toppings while Palestinian prisoners are on hunger strike and of course it's non of your business. To make matters worse, we throw away food while Muslims in Somalia are dying from hunger.
"And then we say thats All Muslims are brothers. Where is your brother in Syria? How is your brother in Palestine? Have we forgotten them? Do we even remember them in our prayers? Or do we just ask for a sport's car in our Sijdah?
"where is the love people? On the day of Judgment when everyone will be running in confusion our Prophet (SAW) will be raising his blessed hands crying 'Ya Rabii , Ummati. Ummati' . If he remembers us then in total chaos why can't we remember our brothers now?
" So who's with me? Who is ready to give up that dollar for a Syrian child? Let's not be selfish. Walhi Jannah isn't free. We gotta work for it. Being egocentric will not help. Give a dollar or two and Allah will raise you in honor.
"It doesn't matter how small it is, all that matters is what is in your heart."
He finished and anasheed by Omar Isa titled 'Refugee' was playing. I sat there stuck in a trance. Unable to move or talk. That was the man I fell in love with. Even if I will never get to be his, I will forever thank Allah for him.
As-salaam Alaykum people. Thanks for reading.
Just hit the star button if it's good enough. And remember the children of Syria and Palestine in your prayers.
