The drive back home would have been awkward so Haytham decided to stay behind. Jamal, Drex, and the two girls went back home. Haytham and Hanif said they were going to take Jaffar to the hospital.

Aliyah has never felt that happy in her whole life.  Being free from Jaffar was one of her the reasons for her happiness. The fact that she saw Haytham that angry because Jaffar dared to touch her came with a satisfaction she had never experienced before.

Haytham and Hanif stared at Jaffar, who looked terrible. He could barely see from his swollen eyes. He looked like he was beaten by a mob.

"We will take him to the hospital nearby and leave him to explain what happened to him." Haytham said as  Jaffar turned in pain.

"You know we can go to jail for this." Hanif said.

"Of course I will but you won't because you know nothing about it. You didn't see me beating him up and you didn't lay a finger on him." Haytham was ready to take all the blame.

They called a taxi and took Jaffar to the hospital.

"O...my...God!" The lady at the reception shouted. She immediately called some nurses and he got rushed into the ER.

The two men sat at the waiting room and waited for the doctors. They were taking very long and Haytham was afraid he might have killed the guy. He looked down at his bloody knuckles and saw how bruised they were from punching him.

Ya Allah, don't let me be a murderer. Keep him alive. I don't want to be a murderer. He prayed silently. Hanif noticed how unease he was.

"It will be okay, Akhi." He whispered and Haytham smiled. Haytham gave him the bro hug not knowing that would be the first of many and that Hanif was going to be a great part of both Aliyah and his life.

"Are you the family of that young man who was brought into the ER a few minutes ago?" A black, short doctor interrupted their bro hug. They both stood up and before Haytham could say no Hanif shouted  yes.

"He is okay. He has a broken nose and his eyes are too swollen he can't even open them." The doctor started. "He can barely talk but he asked me to tell you guys thank you."

They looked at each other confused. What was he thanking them for? They had to find out.

"Can we see him." They both asked at the same time. The doctor laughed.

"Seems you really love him. Is he your brother or something?" He was trying to make small talks.

"He is my brother." Hanif lied.

"Oh, and you must be the loyal best friend." The doctor said to Haytham.

"Can we just see him?" Hanif interupted before another lie was told.

"Follow me." The doctor led the way to his room and left them alone.

Hanif and Haytham pushed each other. Whispering  'you first' and  'no, you first' because non wanted to talk first.

Jaffar's face was covered by bandages. He could barely see a thing but he heard them whispering.

"Hey." He called they went silent for a moment. "Come closer."

It hurt when he spoke because his jaws were almost broken. How can one man bring such a great damage to his body?

They stood next to his bed and looked at each other in confusion.

"I told the doctor I had a freak accident and he didn't believe me at first but I think he is buying that." Jaffar said and his lips formed a smile.  "I wanted to thank you guys. You came right on time."

Now they were more than confused.

"You stopped me from doing something that I would have regretted my entire life so thank you." He continued. "I am afraid of myself. The things alcohol makes me do, it's like I lose myself completely. Tonight I was about to do something I have never done before and was always against. I turned into an animal."

At that point he was crying and they felt sorry for him.

"I want to forgive myself but I can never. Aliyah can forgive me, I know she has a big  heart." He said amidst sobs.

"That's enough ,Akhi." It was Hanif trying to console him.

"Ask Allah to forgive you. He is the most forgiving." That was Haytham and they left.

Jaffar was overwhelmed by their kindness. He started crying all over again.

He remembered the days he used to pray to Allah. How beautiful his life used to be. He needed it back. He needed the old religious Jaffar back, only then would he be at peace with himself.
