"Alright, so we'll go inside and Professor McGonagall will be waiting inside. She'll tell you what to do next." Hagrid explained.
We all walk inside and on the top of the stairs was a lady in green robes, hey brown-grey hair done up tightly.
"Welcome students." she said nobily. Her aurora was very strong. I could she was wise and that people looked up to her. I've already began to admire her.
She explains how we are going to get sorted into one of the four houses. All of a sudden, she was interrupted by a toad jumping up by her foot. "Trevor!" a chubby boy said, as he pushed past me, running to grab the toad. McGonagall glared at him. The boy who I'm guessing is Neville, backed into the crowd, looking embarrassed. He stood next to me for the rest of the time McGonagall spoke.
He looked at me and whispered, "Why are you soaked?" "Oh, I fell in." I explained. We both quietly laughed, not wanting to make McGonagall mad.
All of us first years follow Professor McGonagall to the Great Hall to get sorted. As we're walking I keep thinking, the thought of not being sorted into Gryffindor scares me. I don't want to be alone, without any of the Weasleys or my other friends. But... what if I don't get get sorted with them, and get sorted with Draco instead... I begin to feel very nervous.
I look over to see Harry, he looks nervous like me. "Hey, it's okay." I said, giving him a light squeeze on his shoulder. He smiled. "Thanks." he said.
We make it to the Great Hall; it was amazing. There were lit candles floating above the whole room, and the roof was dark, with the beautiful night sky's milky way shining above.
I, along with my friends and the other first years, are gathered to the side. A man with a long white beard and half-moon spectacles stood up at the podium and began to speak with a booming voice.
He told us all about Hogwarts and what all we'll be doing and learning at the school. He introduced the teachers and one, with black robes, and long greasy hair, matching the color of his clothes, had a scowl, the whole time. He was introduced as Professor Snape, the potions teacher. He seemed scary, I hope I don't have him first thing in the morning.
The man speaking introduced himself as Professor Dumbledore, the Headmaster of Hogwarts. He explained that Professor McGonagall will call us up to get sorted with the Sorting Hat. McGonagall walks up to the podium and begins to call our names.
"Longbottom, Neville." she calls. Neville looks down at me nervously, I smile and give him a thumbs up. He walks up to the podium and sits down on the stool. A blind person could even tell he was nervous. The Sorting Hat is placed onto his head and thinks for a moment. "GRYFFINDOR!" the hat yells. Neville smiles and goes to sit with the Gryffindor table, proudly.
A few more people were called, including Ron and Hermione, who were both placed into Gryffindor. Then it was Harry's turn.
"Potter, Harry." McGonagall said. The room was swept over by a wave of silence, followed by a couple whispers. I would've wondered why, but beforehand, Ron had explained to me his story.
Harry feverishly walks up to the podium and sits on the stool. McGonagall places the Sorting Hat on his head. The hat waits for what felt like ages before saying anything. I see Harry's lips mouth the words repeatedly: not Slytherin, not Slytherin.
"Not Slytherin, aye?" the hat says. There were a few chuckles from some students, even a couple teachers. "Well then, better be... GRYFFINDOR!" the Sorting Hat yells. A giant cheer erupted from the Gryffindor table, happy to have Harry Potter in their house.
Next was Draco's turn. When he was called, he swaggered up to the podium and sat down. The hat barely even touched his head when it yelled, "SLYTHERIN!" The Slytherin table claps and whistles as Draco makes his way down there.
"East, Emily." McGonagall says. I instantly became nervous as I walk up ti the podium and sit on the stool. I look at the Gryffindor table where all my friends have been placed. I continue to scan the table and see a boy, who looks to be in his third year, staring at me. He seemed to be surprised and happy, but also in deep thought. Weird. I ignore the confusing boy and think, "I have to be Gryffindor, I'm not, then... then..." I didn't get to finish my thought because the hat interrupted me.
"Well, if you're that focused on Gryffindor then, I guess I have no other choice. For you, GRYFFINDOR!" he boomed. The Gryffindor table cheered, my friends cheering the most, as I skipped my way down to the table and plopped myself in between Hermione and Fred.
