You sniffed, turning over in bed. Why the hell were your sheets so itchy..?

Your eyed fluttered open, this wasn't your bed. The sun hung hugely in the sky like a fat brass coin. Its radiating heat baked the ground into hard earth, whipped the air into a sticky mess, and left the poor monsters crazy.
You looked around, confused by the blinding yellowish sun. Did you have a fever? No, that wasn't it... Fresh air combed your head and you were lying on the ground – more likely a meadow. The soft grass tickled your body. Your head rested on something else.... on a pair of black pants.

You looked up to him, noticing his face. He may be grinning like he always did, but there was no light in his dark eye sockets. The warm sun casted a shadow of him onto your body.

Your head, oh God, your head was throbbing like crazy.

"Oh no..." You whispered, pressing a hand to your forehead in fear something went horribly wrong. You saw this expression of his only in the genocide time lines.

"(y/n)?" Sans blinked. "You're awake!"

"Yeah, it looks like it. What... happened?" you asked slowly.

He paused, searching for the right words. Sans truly wanted to just squeeze you tight and never let go, but he figured that would worsen your condition. Especially in your innocent state, you would just ask more questions.

"(Name), you weren't awake yesterday. Or the day before that." For once in his life, he spoke coldly and distant. "Actually, we thought you were dead. That's why.... That's why... I brought you here." his voice trembled at the end and you saw how his expression softened and a small tear run down his cheek.

You stared blankly at him, your mouth parted. He was lying. This was a prank and Alphys was in on it. Yeah, funny.

A flood of memories hit you like a brick wall. Chara. Chara was everywhere. The barrier. You brought it down. That's right. Your soul was partly Chara's.

Suddenly you started to cry. Just out of the blue. You were just happy to be alive. And out of the underground!

Right now, the two of you were sitting on top of Mt. Ebott.

This time... This time you'd do everything to keep peace in the world. You've finally opened the barrier somehow and your friends can see the sky. It made you kinda sad knowing you couldn't see their faces when they first saw it.

But anyway, you were alive, breathing. Enough of being the hero who would sacrifice himself for others. You played this game all the time. Right now you wanted your old friends to come back. You wanted to be loved by Sans, to hold him, to kiss him.

"What's up, or rather down, kiddo?" asked Sans, as he took your hand into his, like you were going to disappear any second. This sentence sounded familiar...

"I'm just glad it's finally over. Everyone is happy now!" you cried with a bright smile on your lips. "Sans, can I tell you a secret?" you asked.

He nodded.

"I should have tied my shoes, so I wouldn't fall in love with you. Hach... My mistake..." you told this one old pun once again, hoping he would accept your feelings. All the time, your heart was only beating for him.

He lowered his head, so only an inch was parting your faces. He chuckled and you didn't know if it was good or bad. "Then tie your shoes now, because I don't want ya to fall in love with someone else."

It was a good chuckle... Followed by a kiss you wished way to long for.

You have been there, at the end.
You looked down into the abyss, let them drag you down to the end.

But this end is another one. A better one.

But still, you never spoke about the genocide, never mentioned it. Not even to Sans.

Well...Because you loved them too much.
