A awoke to a loud unpleasing sound...my step-mother...Waking me up to get ready for my first day at college. I get up listlessly and grab my brush to start smoothing out the thick brown mess hovering over my head. I look in the mirror and all that stares back was a tired, recognized face. I pull out my makeup bag and put on a light line of eye liner. I would put on mascara but it doesn't help considering how long and thick they naturally are. I finish putting on a light gloss. For my outfit I choose a pair of black distressed skinny jeans and a purple cami under a white blouse. "Kayla!" Mom screams from down stairs.
"Mother I am coming! I don't have to be the first one there!" I call her mother. My mom died a while back. I don't know why or how. I was 3 and my dad doesn't want to talk about it...didn't...didn't want to talk about it. He is in jail...went there when I was 6, a year after marrying Stephanie.
"Don't use that tone with me." She sternly says back.
"Just hurry up I have to get to school anyways! " my irritating younger brother Jackson says.
Jackson is my real moms kid. He was a few months old when our mom died.
He is three years behind me and and he has always been the ideal brother. The kind you would imagine. Stubborn, nosy, loud, and just flat out irritating. Being 15 years old now you would think he would have matured but he didn't.
I run downstairs and linger towards the door..."wow I really"...I begin like I will say something positive..."won't miss this place"
"Good" Jackson curtly spits at me. "And we certainly won't miss you." He adds.
My mom loves me to pieces and I love her to but we always irritate eachother with cocky and ignorant behavior towards eachother and that will never change. My brother has no heart on the other hand and doesn't just irritate me beacause we are family.
We drive down to Saints University, about two hours from home, after dropping Jackson off at school. I would have loved to drive myself down here but mom insisted and claims she is buying me a new car anyways.
People claim Mom and I have a lot in common but I choose not to see it. What I must admit to is looking almost exactly like her. We aren't even blood related but it's amazing how much she could pull off as my real mom. Same green-brown eyes and same smile and cheek bone structure. I thank my dad for my little button nose because my mother has a long bridge and a very unflattering nose. We both have the same pile of thick hair on our heads and have naturally ashen skin. When I was younger I had freckles, like my real Mom did, covering my cheeks but they soon disappeared by time a was 14.
I live in a small peaceful town in northern Florida where there are less beaches and less crouds. Although Saints University is a well taught college for the most advance people in my area it is unheard of. I know my classes would be small but my assignments will be very easy to focus on because of the small population.
When I get there I am greeted by Myra. She was my best friend and still thinks she is. She treats me terribly without even noticing she is always being obnoxious. She is this way with everyone. Even Kailey her long time best friend. Kailey and Myra had known eachother for years before I even came around. But as soon as Kailey started to get to know me she told me that she wanted to find the best way possible of telling Myra her feeling but we both agreed that we couldn't do that to her because with Myra you are either her friend or her enemy. You can't just be a friendly acquaintance to her.
Myra is there with her boyfriend Dalton. He is tall and greatly structured. He has brown hair darker than my hair. And pale green eyes. Kailey and I are single and we always joke around about getting dates. At one point we were messing around and I jokingly said to my mom "bye I'm gonna go have a double date with Myra and Kailey" and when she asked who my date was I said Kailey. We always joke around like that because we are good enough friends to be able to make a homosexual joke and not take It seriously.
When I go inside a young woman with wild red lipstick and too much blush greets us and I sign in. My room is A12. Short ways from here and I thankfully don't need to use the stairs that were reluctantly being used by the B,C, and D rooms because of the defective elevators. I share a room with a girl I have never met before. Strangely because most of the people here were from my area where I know every single one if them. Kailey has room C18 and I felt bad but am pretty amused to see the look on her face when she first looks at the large steps.
My roommate is wearing a pink dress that you would expect to see at a middle school dance and her flawless face is piled on by sparkly lip gloss pink eyeshadow and bright blush. She seems like a Barbie come to life with her long voluminous blonde hair bouncing around with every movement she makes. She bounces up and says hello in a light bubbly tone. "Heya! My name Is Shae!" Her voice is like silk. She is very beautiful but her choice of attire and personality really overlooks the fact that she could snap into a popular cheerleader snob any second. "Hello dear." My Mom says instantly approving of my roommate. "My name is Stephanie ." She says to my new roomie. "H-hi" I nervously say. I wouldn't call myself emo or punk but I am more on the tomboy side when it comes to clothing. I am most comfortable in jeans and a t-shirt with some skate shoes than a skirt or dress. I wear dress shirts that can be on the girly side but I put on a dress and I don't feel like myself
When we all finish our hellos and goodbyes I unpack and get settled in to my surroundings. Shae's side of the room contains posters of animals and flowers and her bed spread is plaid pink and white. Her wardrobe contains shirts and dresses of all kinds styles and colors except anything dark. If she had blue it was sky blue..if she had purple it was pastel purple...and she doesn't have a single hint of black in sight. I can't imagine her wanting to give me a makeover for fun.
When I am fully settled in I call Kailey and Myra and make plans to meet up somewhere.
Kailey, Myra, Dalton, Jade, Ronnie and I all meet up at Shirley's. It is a small diner in town. Jade is another one if my close friends and Ronnie is a guy I've known all my life. Kailey invited him because she has a thing for him. We ordered all different types of meals. I have some leftover side fries that Ronnie wasn't shy to take from me.
"Guys I'm getting pretty tired I think I'm gonna go" I lie. I want some time to myself to just relax
"Wait, stay for just a little longer!" Kailey begs "pretty please..." She batts her eyes jokingly.
"Fine" I humor her after arguing for over five minutes.
"Who are they?" Myra states from across the table.
There is a group of guys walking in. One in particular that catches my eye. He is tall and muscular. He has tattoos all up his one arm and the other was mostly clear. He has a mess of wavy brown hair on his head and it is pushed back in a type of flip thats very attractive. I can see his sparkling green eyes from my seat. They are a group of At least 8 people. I don't bother to talk to him but I do notice the sweatshirt one of them is wearing. They are from Saints University.
