Katie's POV

"Just a dream, just a dream," Loki whispers into my hair. Tears roll down my cheeks. I can't handle this. I'm going insane.

He cradles me gently, rocking slowly back and forth.

Nightmares.

Forty seven in the past week.

I am going insane.

"Do you need anything? Water?" Loki whispers. Suddenly, I feel warm and dizzy. He places his hand on my forehead. "You're feverish. What am I going to do with you?"

He's trying to make a joke, which actually does make me happier, just because it was cheesy.

He lets his hand turn blue and massages my temples with cool magic.

"Thank you," I whisper, closing my eyes.

"Don't fall asleep!" he snips. I open my eyes again. Pushing out of his arms, I open my closet and disappear from sight. I return with a black dress that has a cream colored bow on the front.

"Shoo! Go polish your boot guards or something," I say, flicking my hand towards him. He smirks at me, walking to his room.

Frigga envelopes me in a tight hug as soon as I step foot in the dining room. Following her comes Fandrall, Volstagg, Thor, and Janey. Hogun just frowns, and Sif is still asleep.

"Katie! It is magnificent to see you this fine morning!" Thor booms, picking up Janey. It's like he hasn't seen me in a month.

"Uh, nice to see you too?" I say, unsure. Stupid Loki, where are you?

They all start to laugh and eat, leaving me confused. I just saw them two days ago. Why are they acting like this?

I glance at Frigga, who looks as happy as the rest. I know her faking will fall. And suddenly, I see it. Her smile has fallen into a sad frown. She sees me staring at her and quickly smiles.

"Frigga, what is happening?" I ask, firmness in my voice. She ignores me.

"Frigga!" Still ignoring me.

I flatten my palm on the table, sending small lines of frost towards her. It touches her hand and she moves it. I stand. Time for action. I flick my wrist at the wall, and ice crawls up it. No reaction.

Maybe I will have to set something on fire.

"Frigga please!" she looks at me, sorrow in her eyes. Frigga stands and beckons to me. I follow her to the tapestry hall.

With a solemn face, she gestures to Odin's tapestry. Nothing seems different until I look closer.

I gasp, feeling faint.

The needles have stopped sewing.

"Is he..." I whisper, tears biting at my eyes. Frigga shakes her head in a no.

"That is where Loki is."

The nightmares. The faceless people. My sudden sickness.

"Can I go to him?"

"Not right now. That is why we released Loki so early. That is why you have had nightmares."

So she knows. Good.

"And the faceless people?" I ask. Frigga's eyes widen.

"You see them!" she gasps, wrapping her arms around me.

"Why? Is that bad?"

She looks at me, sad. "The king or the queen is going to die in two months' time."

I hug her, crying.

"No no no no no!"

"We must go to Odin. Get Thor!" she commands. I run off to get him as Frigga runs the other way.

"Thor! Come!" I say, grabbing his arm. He drops his fork and leaves Janey in the arms of Volstagg.

We rush to Odin's hall, not stopping for anything.

Odin sits on a chair, looking pale. Loki and Frigga stand next to him.

"What is wrong, Father?" Thor asks. They left him out?

"The ghosts! She has seen the ghosts!" Frigga whispers. Thor is shocked, and Loki grasps my hand.

"Who is going to die?" I ask.

"We don't know. " Odin says. I frown.

"Can I do anything?" I ask.

"Next time you see the faceless people, you must kill the ones that resemble Odin and Frigga," Loki answers. "That will break the bond. Odin's tapestry stopped sewing because the ghost wants to take his soul, but the ghost will settle for the queen."

I close my eyes. "Loki, you knew I had seen them. Why didn't you tell me they were dangerous?"

"Did they take you anywhere? That is when they are dangerous. "

"The painting..." I whisper.

"Tell me, child," Odin states.

"When you told Loki about being king, one appeared. He took me to a room with a painting of Loki and I as king and queen in it. I didn't think that it was real, I thought I was going crazy."

Silence.

"You will be okay, I promise," Odin says. I nod, clutching Loki's hand. I don't want to see the ghosts. I don't want to kill them. But they are dead, so I guess it doesn't matter.

And then, my head gets foggy. A wave of heat rips through me, filling me with fear. The room gets distant as the faces appear around me.

Something heavy is placed in my hand. My blue sword.

Oh no.

Oh no.

Then, a faceless duo appears in front of me. Odin and Frigga.

This is where it begins.
