The Mis-Fits Among the Mis-Fits

Aya's POV

Fight the urge to get into her head, fight it. No matter what she is your best friend, you must respect her wishes, the reason she is doing this is to show that she trusts you. I get a headache from that stupid nagging voice in the back of my head. "What's wrong Princess," I say in the convincing sweet tone. "I just wanted to..." Em starts as my twin comes bursting into my room shouting, "Em, you don't have to do this." I look at him, and instead of seeing my loving twin, I see a boy who glares at me as if I am the source of all evil. "What does she not have to do, Tom?" my voice sweeter than molasses. "You don't understand," Em breaks the loud silence, "I, I just wanted to make sure that Aya knows that I trust her. I wanted to make sure she is okay." Tom sighs, "Of course Aya's okay, she always is." I take a deep breath as his sharp words pierce my heart. "Tom, in the count of ten you will get out of my room, that is unless you want it to end badly," my voice is the same one I use at court. Em looks at him, her eyes pleading for him to get out, and so he does. "Now that he is gone," I address Em, "What do you want Emalyn?" She looks at me, determined yet still so broken. "I wanted to know what you wanted to talk to me about, Tom told me during dinner," "I wanted to know if you are the one who burned the painting," I reply. She plays with her fingers and looks side to side, seemingly scared. "You don't have to tell me, I know it's you, I just had to have it confirmed," I sigh, "Emalyn, we both have suffered so much, we both hide our pain, the last thing I want is to be betrayed by my best friend. I've suffered that pain so often, from my mother, father, and now my twin brother." She heads towards the door and says, "I know, I will try my best, but I make no promises, and I'll talk to Tom, I guess he is being irrational." and with that, she leaves the room and closes the door behind her. I go back to a dreamless slumber.
