A/N
I know, the book feels a little dead at this point, but the only reason I haven't been updating is that I am not in an emotionally stable enough place to really be online at all. I'll try to get better about updates, but I can make no promises. I'm sorry.

I hesitated outside Bela's door for a moment and contemplated slapping both Iris and Jacob. I sighed and decided not to. I hate the fact that her name is Iris. Iris flowers are beautiful, graceful, and is often the symbol of a goddess, from what we know of the ancient cultures. Iris is none of those things. "Em?" Aya pulled me out of my thoughts. "Yea?" I responded simply. "Should we kill the BITCH?" Aya's voice was filled with venom. I shake my head and sigh. "I need sleep. See ya tomorrow," I turn around and walk to my own room. When I enter, the first thing I notice is the red, Ada, from Summerton placing my journal and various colored inks on my desk. When she notices me staring, she straightens her back and bows, dropping the small smile she had. "Hello, Ada. Don't act so uptight. I don't care what color your blood is or where you are on the social pyramid," I say waving for her to relax. She nods and becomes slightly less tense, but I could tell she was still uncomfortable. "It's midnight. Go get some rest. I'll finish unpacking and such," I order her with the wave of a hand. She bows again and runs off to where I can only assume to be the servants quarters. I lay down on my bed, contemplating sleep. I close my eyes in an attempt to lull myself into slumber but jolt up in fear and panic. I look around, dreading the thought of the black creature on the ceiling being nearby. I let out a slow breath I hadn't known I was holding. I feel warm tears fall to my hand and quickly wipe them from my face. I stood and went to my desk, drawing whatever was on my mind.
In the morning, I woke up with my head on my desk, covering whatever I drew the day before. I heard a knock on the door and called, "Who is it?" Aya opened the door without answering. I rolled my eyes and she pushed me to my closet, "We're going to be late for breakfast. Hurry up." I sigh and nod, closing the closet door behind me. I wander for a moment, looking at each of the designs and colors. Black, black, silver, red, silver. I look at each dress and note the color, looking for something, anything different. I sigh again when I see they're all the same three colors. I walk out and drag Aya to Bela's room, where we walk in without knocking. Again. "Do you guys know how to knock?" She practically shrieks at us. "Nope. I need to borrow a dress," I state, a blank expression on my face. Bela nods and leads me to her much more colorful wardrobe. She starts handing me multi-colored dresses that were much too extravagant for me. I drop the large pile and walk to a dress that was not quite so over the top. It was a simple short forest green dress with a few emeralds on the lighter collar. "I'm borrowing this," I tell Bela as I leave to get ready in my own room. When I get to my room, I see Tom waiting outside, about to knock. "Don't bother. I'm out here," I call as I move past him and enter the room. He nods and enters after me. After I change into the green dress, I put my hair in a high braid and put light emerald eyeshadow on. I look at Tom who seemed to be distracted. "You alright?" I ask him. He nods and a small silver blush tints his cheeks as he points out, "I'm not used to seeing you in a color that isn't one of your house colors." I nod and inform him, "I got bored of the same three colors. So I stole one of Bela's dresses." And then I panicked. I realized Mother would not be very happy. I made my choice. If I get in trouble, so be it. I smiled lightly at Tom and he took my arm in his. We began walking toward the dining hall when we ran into the three people I would like to see least in the world. Cal, Evangeline, and Iris. "Emma! Why are you wearing green? Elara's going to be pissed!" Cal looks at me with wide eyes. "I know. I don't care. I'm the youngest anyway. I'm not important. Bela never wears house colors. Let Mother be mad at me. I'll be fine," I reply with venom. Aya, Maven, Bela, and Jacob then caught up with us and Maven smiled at me. "You look good sis. I'm not sure Mother will be too pleased but I think it looks great," My true brother compliments me. I smile back and Aya nods in agreement. Bela fangirls a bit saying I should keep the dress before we have to go in. We go in order of age, as usual. When it's Tom and I's turn, Mother glares at me. I take my seat in between Tom and Maven. At the front end of the table, Mother (right) and Father (left) sat looking at us with almost no emotion. On the right side, Maven sat next to Mother, I sat next to Maven, Tom sat next to me, and Aya sat next to Tom. On the left, Cal sat next to Father, Evangeline sat next to Cal, Bela sat next to Evangeline, and Jacob sat next to Bela. I thought the seating chart was strange but I said nothing. I wore hidden bracelets of silent stone because I didn't like how the headband looked with my hairstyle. Breakfast went on in almost complete silence until Grandmother came in. She is Father's mother and has never liked me or Maven. She loves Cal and Bela though. Especially Cal. Maven and I stand and bow to the Lerolan. Everyone else remains in their seat. "Hello Grandmother" Maven and I greet in sync. "Hello," She responds, clearly uncaring for us. When she turned to greet Cal and Bela, we took our seats and she fussed over them, telling them she had presents for them. I did not move at all, afraid I'd insult her or my aggravation would show. When I was finally dismissed, Tom, Maven, Aya, and I all went in the opposite direction of Grandmother, Bela, Cal, Jacob, and Evangeline. I could see the disgust on Evangeline's face as she was dragged along with them. I scowled in disgust. Grandmother treats Maven and I like garbage. It doesn't bother me that she treats me like garbage, but I hate that she treats Maven horribly. I care about Maven, more than anyone else in my worthless, royal family.
