I wake up late at night to sleep paralysis yet again. I stare up, terrified by the black, skeletal figure crawling across the ceiling. This isn't real, this isn't real. I tell myself. Just as the creature is above me, it stops. Its disgusting head spins around to peer at me. My breath hitches and I feel as though I am going to scream. But no sound comes out of my mouth. The creature's jaw all but unhinges and it lets out a shrill scream. I am finally able to move and I throw myself off the bed, my breathing heavy and uneven. I reach up for my medication but stop myself before I grab it. I wasn't going to sleep anyway. I turn on the lights and walk briskly to my desk. My drawing and inks were still out so I just sat down and closed my eyes. My mind went blank as it finished the drawing. When I opened my eyes again, it was dawn. I looked down at the paper and saw a very realistic spider with one altercation. The spider had 12 legs. "12," I murmur to myself, pondering over the possible meaning. A knock on my door surprises me as it is still early morning and no one should be awake right now. "Who is it?" I call out cautiously. There's a moment of silence before I hear a quiet response, "It's me." The fragile voice takes me by surprise. "C-come in." I stutter. In walks a young boy that I hadn't seen in a long time. "I'm sorry Emalyn. I had a bad dream and I remembered what you had told me A long time ago." The 5-year-old Haven shadow whispered. "It's okay Gareth." My voice was gentle as I spoke to the boy I had met in the halls of the West Archeon castle last year. I moved swiftly in his direction and pulled him into my arms. He was quite small, so I was able to pick him up easily and place him on my bed next to me. "I didn't think you would be awake this early," he murmured, his head down. "Well I had a nightmare too, so, I guess we both are having trouble with sleep," I inform him, a small smile gracing my features. He looks up and shows me a big grin before hugging me tightly. I return the embrace and chuckle at the boy I had quickly grown to care for. He was like a kid brother to me. "What was your nightmare about?" Gareth asked with a curious look on his face. "I-" I begin, a sudden realization hitting me, " I don't remember. I know it was awful and I know Aya was there but I'm not sure what happened." "Huh," was his response. "What about you? What was your dream about?" He looked up in surprise and began explaining his nightmare.
