The letter

As I walked into the school, the consequences of what I had done hit me hard in the head. I closed my eyes and leaned against the wall as I just thought of what I had done. Well, now no one could say that I had no guts.

“Hey dude, what’s up?”

I opened my eyes and say Taylor smiling at me. That would probably be the last smile on her face for today.

“Hmmm, nothing,” I said as I avoided her eyes.

“Dude, what happened?”, she asked me as she tried to catch my eyes. Then understanding hit her and she asked disbelievingly, “You actually did it?”

I nodded quietly as I observed the patterns of the opposite wall even though there were none.

“What the fuck is wrong with you?” she asked me angrily.

Taylor rarely swore and when she did it was the warning for the upcoming disaster.

“I don’t know. I just did it. Besides you said that if I wanted, I could do it.”, I told her finally meeting her eyes. I flinched back when I saw her angry glare.

“Okay..”, she said, trying to calm her temper. “Explain to me from the beginning what exactly you did. “she asked me.

I looked back at her as I recalled what happened.

I looked at my reflection in the mirror as I got ready for school. The letter in my blazer pocket suddenly felt heavy. I swallowed and closed my eyes. I had to do this. I opened my eyes and took out the letter from my pocket. I opened the envelope and reread the letter for what seemed like the thousandth time.

Dear Liam,

I really don’t think you know who I am, but I’ve always felt that you have gained a very special place in my heart. I have at last got the guts to send this letter which represents my feelings. Whenever we walk past each other in the corridors, my heart jumps to my throat, is this what the hormones are doing to me? My heart melts whenever I see you smile. That smile alone can make my world go from the worst to the best. I don’t expect any reply but I don’t think I can sleep well if I don’t tell you my feelings as you certainly have a right to know.

Happy valentine’s day

Love,

Your secret admirer.

“Okay, I can do it “I repeated to myself as I followed my brother outside the door. God alone knew what is going to happen.

As I sat in the bus seat, I looked at Liam. He was laughing right now and I couldn’t help but wonder what his reaction would be to my letter. I knew that I could still back out but I had got something to prove. As my bus parked, I looked outside and saw his next to my bus. The colour flooded into my cheeks as I got a clear view of the person who could really make my world the best.

Dylan was sitting and coincidently Liam was right next to him. I couldn’t help but compare the two and criticize Violet’s choice. But I smiled as I thought, “At least I saw him in the morning.”

I got out of the bus and chased after my brother and his friends. They stopped and I kneeled down to their height.

“You guys should go and send this letter to Liam, ok? You know, the Liam in our bus.”, I told them with a look of desperation on my face as I watched Liam enter the boy’s section closely followed by Dylan.

I turned back to the kids.

“Who the Liam in 3A?”, Hadi, my brother’s best friend asked.

I rolled my eyes and told them, “No, go to 9B and give this letter to Liam.”

I turned to my brother and told, “Don’t open the letter.”

I knew I could trust my brother as I explained to them not to tell him who I was.

My brother and his friends rushed to the boy’s section and I watched them battle their way through the crowd with their trolley bag as their weapon.

I sighed and wondered, “ God, will I make through this alive?”

Taylor looked at me as I looked back at her. I had told her the entire thing except the part about Dylan; she didn’t need to know that. We were right in front of our class.

I looked inside and saw Emma and Violet laughing. I knew now that I shouldn’t have done it.

“The poor thing doesn’t know yet.” Taylor told me as she turned to me.”Aren’t you going to enter?”, she asked.

I sighed and entered the class.

Emma and Violet stopped what they were doing and wished me. They started blabbering about how Emma saw some show on valentine’s day.

I looked at Taylor as she settled in front of me.

I looked back at Violet and saw that she had noticed that something was wrong.

“What happened?”, she asked. And then like déjà vu, understanding flooded her.

We both looked at each other while Taylor was looking at us. Emma as usual was blabbering her way to glory.

She stopped and looked at us.

“Oh, Ash, so did you send the letter?”, she smirked and asked me.

None of us moved as I nodded slowly. Her smirk dropped and so did her jaw.

“WHAT?”, she screamed. The entire class turned look at us. Taylor smacked her across the head. Violet was brought out of her miserable state by her scream.

She took out a chocolate from her bag as she sat next to me. She took a slab and passed it to me.

“You need it as much as I need it right now. “she replied to my questioning stare.

I nodded and ate the slab as she also started eating.

Taylor and Emma looked at each other as Emma asked, “Exactly what was there in the letter?”

I looked at her and gave her a brief on the letter. I couldn’t exactly remember what I had written.

Violet said, “How did you send it?”

I looked at Taylor with a look that meant “you-explain”. Fortunately, she understood my look and explained what I had told her to them.

“Now, you have really proved that you have guts.”, Emma said.

“Yeah, now if any of you say the word guts in front of me I will personally murder that person.” said Taylor at my smirking face.

“I’ll help you do that,” I told her.

“I meant you.”

I sighed and looked at Violet with my eyebrow raised.

“You win.:, she sighed and closed her eyes. Guilt washed through me as I saw her sight. I patted her back as I apologized to her.

“Maybe, my bro didn’t send it. We will go and talk in break.”I said reassuringly to her. She nodded and said “Anyway, you said secret admirer, so it’s fine”

“Yeah, I mean what exactly can happen, right?”I said

I had absolutely no idea how wrong I was.
