Lance was rushing through the streets towards the harbor, Wallace had asked him to talk to his pack but he wasn't really doing this just for him. In truth he wanted, or more like he needed to see Maria again. Although at the same time he wasn't looking forward to her reaction about her dad's death, which added to his anxiety of seeing her. Aside from his nervousness to see Maria, Lance also found himself wondering how Louis would react to seeing him return without Merrick.
Damn this is taking too long running as a human, Lance thought and he ran into an alley, he took a deep breath and let the animal within him burst from it's cage. It started off as it always did his spine literally twisted inside his body, forcing him to retch and double over nearly falling to the ground. Next came his legs and knees, there was a loud snap as they twisted into a more canine way so could bend the other way. Lance felt his clothes begin to tear as his body grew to nearly double it's size and he felt his own body temperature rise as fur covered his body. Lance looked straight up at the edges of the roof and Lance found himself at least able to partially dictate what he was able to do. Pack, pack, he thought to himself as he leaped straight up and clung to the stone wall. Despite his increased strength Lance couldn't manage to fully dig his claws into the brick wall, but he was able to get them in enough to allow him to be able to haul himself upwards.
After only about three leaps Lance was hauling himself on top of the roof. He was well aware o the racket he must've been making, but he had to hurry before he actually drew attention to himself. Lance reared up on his hind legs and drew in several deep breaths, Lance tried hard but he couldn't manage to single out any other werewolf scents. He knew the way but he wanted to find out if there were any of his pack that were near him. Giving up on trying to find a scent Lance took a deep breath and let out as loud a howl as he could muster. He waited a minute and sure enough he heard it loud and clear, another wolf was responding. But Lance felt uneasy about it, the sound of the city somewhat altered the howl and it didn't sound like anyone he knew. Not thinking too much into it Lance took off in the direction he heard the howl coming from.
He thanked his lucky stars for it being night time and also having just turned night not too long ago. It'd allow him to run across the roof tops without being seen, but he had to be quick with his extra weight he'd be making a lot of noise. After about two minutes Lance saw another large figure leaping across the rooftops and he chose to wait on his current roof for the other wolf. Lance reared up on his hind legs and reverted back to his human self, the wind chilled him and his shredded clothes offering very little protection from it he rubbed his bare arms in an attempt to warm himself. The other wolf leaped over to him and revearted to it's human form mid-leap and another wind blew towards Lance and he caught the scent finally and he held his arms open.
"Maria-" Lance began but Maria slapped him across the face as soon as she landed.
"You're such a goddamn asshole," Maria shouted and hit Lance several times in the chest and shoulders. "Where the hell did you go!?"
Lance took several more punches before he finally grabbed her by the wrists, she resisted and first but she stopped as she pressed her forehead to his chest and he heard her let out a sob. Lance let go of her wrists and wrapped his arms around her, lifting her off the ground slightly Lance rested his head in the crook of her neck inhaling her warm scent. He too felt a sob coming up but simply having her in his arms repressed any and all sounds that he could make. Maria moved away from him slightly and stared up at him, Lance could see that tears weren't far away.
"You're an asshole you know-" Maria began but Lance brought his head down and pressed his lips to hers.
Lance felt her hands ball up into fists as she pulled on the what rags of a shirt that he had left. Lance wanted badly to give himself to her right there but Jake's face flashed in his mind again as he pulled himself away. Maria's eyes fluttered up as she looked up at him and Lance kissed her once more before pulling away, much as he hated it he couldn't let his love for Maria cloud his mind right now.
