Jake and Lance ran out of the high school-avoiding the front office-and were darting down the road towards the old St. Agnes hospital. "Is Father Matthew gonna meet us there or what are we gonna do?" Lance asked breathing heavily.

"I'm not sure," Jake said, "He's the one who sent the message. My guess is that he's already there waiting for us. Either way we gotta be ready for anything."

"You got your Slayer right," Lance asked as the two boys rounded a corner getting steadily closer to the hospital. "If there's more than one vampire there your gonna need that."

"Yeah I got it right-" Jake began and reached for his pistol, but felt nothing. "Shit, I must've left it at the church."

"Well just hope that Father Matthew will be there, and pray that he brought a spare." Lance said, "Cause if there's more than two vampires, our daggers just aren't going to cut it."

"I know, I know," Jake said angry with himself for making such a rookie mistake, especially after what happened last night he should've brought his gun with him.

The boys were in sight of the hospital and they were sprinting now, despite how out of breath they were. Finally reaching the final block before reaching the hospital. With the hospital now in full view, Jake was puzzled to see that there was no blood at all. What's going on Jake thought. As the boys neared St. Agnes, completely out of breath from the run Jake asked. "Lance do you smell anything unusual,"

Lance taking deep breaths in through his nose looked puzzled, "Just the usual smell of car exhaust and the smell of yesterdays trash-" Lance froze in mid-sentence and tensed up drawing in another deep breath. "Yeah, I smell vampire but-"

"But what," Jake said sounding urgent, "What do you smell?!?"

After a pause Lance spoke, "It's definitely vampire but there's something off about it, almost mutated or infected." Lance finished with a puzzled look.

"What do you mean," Jake asked not sure he wanted to hear the answer.

"I'm not sure, it just doesn't smell like a normal vampire. I can't explain it, but it's definitely not right." Lance said sounding serious. He ran across the street to the gate of the hospital before Jake could ask anything else.

St. Agnes was quite a sight no matter how many times Jake saw it he could never get used to the sheer size of the building. If Jake wasn't told it was a hospital he would've thought it was another skyscraper, with over 30 stories and it's huge lighting rods at the top. Lance was looking around the sides of the gate for any hole he could squeeze through, as Jake came over Lance turned around.

"I'll give you a boost Jake and I'll jump the gate." Lance said as he linked his fingers together creating a foothold for Jake.

As soon as Jake had his foot securely in Lance's hands he was surprisingly launched over the wall and, had to twist wildly to keep from landing on his head but landed hard on his tailbone with a cry. Jake rolled over rubbing his lower back, as a dull pain shut through his body. So much so he didn't even notice Lance leap over the wall and land next to him.

"Quit laying around you jackass," Lance said in a harsh voice, "And keep quiet you'll alert whoever's here."

"Well if you had warned me that you were gonna throw me insted of just giving me a boost, I would've been able to land on my feet," snapped Jake shooting his friend a hard look.

"Sorry," Lance said peaking around the bush they landed behind, "You know I can't control my strength sometimes when I'm this close to vampires."

"We don't even know if there are any vampires here," Jake began standing up still holding his lower back.
