Rin's Friend (Rin Matsuoka x Reader)

Remembering

A/n: Quick little note that this will be based off of the anime, so I hope you guys enjoy and will try to get a new chapter up every Saturday or Sunday. No promises though.

"Look at him. Nobody's more in his element than he is right now." My brother, Makoto said to me and Nagisa. We all watched Haru glide through the water doing freestyle. I was hiding behind my brother mainly, but could still see Haru. It never ceased to amaze me how he swims.

"Hmm, like a dolphin!" Nagisa said excitedly. Mako laughed and I giggled at the statement when I saw a burgundy haired boy get on the diving pad. Mako and Nagisa noticed, too. "Who's that?" Nagisa asked curiously. I was wondering as well.

"Rin Matsuoka," Mako said as the boy was putting on his googles. "He transferred to our class last week." Rin pulled the strap of the googles back so that it hit him in the back of the head slightly. I winced because that must've hurt. He then got into swimming position and dived into the water. We all jogged to the platform and watched him. He caught up to Haru quickly and it looked like the both of them were racing.

"Wow!" I said happily. I got out from being behind my brother to watch the two race. They had just turned and it was neck and neck, but Haru won. He lifted his head out of the water and took his cap and googles off. He flung his wet hair around in front of his face before looking in our direction. Mako walked forward and put his hand out to help Haru out.

"Still the fastest one in the water Haruka. Nice job." Mako congratulated. I stifled a laugh because he hates being called his normal name.

"Hey, seriously when are you going to stop calling me that already?" Haru questioned nonchalantly. He never really shows his emotions, but that's what makes Haru, Haru. He grabbed Mako's hand and got pulled out of the water.

"Oh wow! Watching you swim was so cool. I hope someday that I'll be able to swim like you!" Nagisa said to Haru. I smiled sweetly at him and gave him a thumbs up. I looked and saw Rin come
up and gasp for air before looking at us.

"They weren't lying. You are fast. What's your time?" Rin said to Haru. I saw his pointed teeth and hid behind Mako again.
"His teeth scare me." I whispered quietly to Mako. He turned slightly to give me a gentle smile and to ruffle my hair.
"It's okay. That's just how his teeth are." Mako said kindly. I smiled and looked back at the conversation.

"I don't know, and I don't care." Haru stated. We never really timed him because he usually never cared about it. Rin looked shocked before laughing.

"Well at least your living up to your reputation." Rin stated with a smile. When Rin got out to talk to him I hid more behind Mako because I don't make friends that easily. People usually get pretty bored with my conversations, so I just have these three. "Hey, let me ask you something?" Haru looked interested in what he had to say. "Do you want to enter a relay with me at the next tournament?" He questioned. I poked my head out a little and Rin glimpsed at me giving me a smile.

"I swim free or I don't swim at all." Haru said before walking to the platform again.
"He's usual like that." Mako said kindly. Rin looked at him and smiled, until he looked down slightly and put his hands on his knees to bend down and look at me.

"And can I ask who you are?" Rin said smiling. I looked at his scarlet eyes then averted my gaze.
"(Y/n) Tachibana." I said quietly. He smiled.
"It's nice to meet you (Y/n)." He said happily. I came out a little and smiled shyly. After that day we became best friends. I would go over to his house and play with him and his sister Gou, even though she preferred Kou. We would race at the pool and he usually won the races. They all ended up going into the relay together and won. They got their picture taken, but Rin pulled me into the picture and it was hanged up at our swimming pool.

I opened my eyes and gasped slightly. Why am I remembering that now? I sat up groggily and looked at my clock. '4:37' I thought. I fell back down and looked at my ceiling. 'It's been 5 years since I've seen Rin. Why do I keep thinking of the day we met.' I thought to myself. We'll just have to see how things go this year in high school.
