Rin's Friend (Rin Matsuoka x Reader)

Float

*(Y/n) POV*

Rei walked up to the platform confidently. We all, even Haru, watched Rei with awe and curiosity. He got into position and pushed off. Mako and Nagisa gasped in awe and I watched intently, but he ended up falling straight into the pool doing a belly flop. I winced when he hit the water and the two backed their heads slightly. "Well, maybe it was fluke." I said reassuringly.

"I don't think so (Y/n). Let's go see." Mako said before the three of us ran over to his lane seeing Rei do little kicks. He pushed up and gasped for air and started panting heavily.

Nagisa chuckled a bit a straighten up. "Theory is great and all, but I think it'd be a big help if you learned how to swim first." He smiled after. I giggled and walked over to the side of the pool. Mako caught up to me and was looking away which confused me, until he shoved me slightly. I gripped my arm and glared at him.

"What was that for?!" I asked annoyed. He laughed and smiled at me.

"It looks like someone had a change of heart." He stated before he hopped into the pool along with Nagisa. I scrunched my face and dropped my arms.

"What's that suppose to mean?" I said loudly. He just looked at me and winked before standing in front of Rei. I rolled my eyes. "What I get for having a gentle giant for a brother." I said kiddingly before smiling and dipping my feet into the pool.

"I think it'd be best if we start with something simple like the turtle float." Mako suggested to him. I watched the three talk to Rei, and it seemed like he was very keen to learn this.

"I'll demonstrate." Nagisa placed his googles on and started floating with a little section of his back showing.

"Hug your knees to your chest and relax." Mako explained. "See, easy stuff."

"Not very graceful." Rei said in a disappointing voice. I sighed and rolled my eyes.

"Just try it already." I said to him. He looked at me before placing his googles on and started doing the turtle float. I raised an eyebrow at the accomplishment.

"Well at least he can float." Nagisa pointed out.

"Alright now slowly extend your legs and arms out and try to swim forward." Rei listened to Mako, but instead of going anywhere he sunk down to the bottom. He quickly came up and took a huge gasp of air. I shook my head and stretched my arms before I stood up and got onto the platform. Even though I was apart of the team I couldn't forget that I had to practice myself.

I dove in and started doing freestyle with ease. After a while I was getting tired and when I touched the wall I took and huge gasp of air and started to pant. I looked behind me and looked back before going for another set.

*Rin POV*

It was after school and I was in the pool swimming while Nitori timed me. I was going at it for the longest time and I was getting tired, but I was fired up at the same time. I touched the wall and lifted my googles while I panted heavily. "Way to hustle, great time." Nitori said enthusiastically. I looked behind me and kept panting before turning my body around and mumbling one more. Nitori sound surprised, but I was going to keep going.

~Time skip~

We had just gotten back and I could still feel myself as if I was in the water still. I was drying my hair with the Samezuka towel while Nitori started to compliment me again. "Seriously, your swimming is really amazing!" He boasted.

"If you swim as much as you compliment me, you'd have your own style by now." I told him truthfully while I kept drying my hair. He looked surprised, then distraught.

"To be honest, it feels like I'm running smack into a brick wall." He explained to me. "I guess in the end it has to do with talent like the one Nanase and (Y/n) showed when we had that joint practice." I was proud to hear (Y/n) being praised, slightly jealous, but hearing Haru in the same sentence made my blood boil.

"Is that so?" I said annoyedly, cutting Nitori off. I grabbed the end of my towel tightly to contain my anger. "Interesting." I said as I pulled it down. After it fell off my head I gave him an irritated look. "Do you honestly think that?" He gasped in slight fear and surprise. I looked back at the ground. "They just started their swim club, and they haven't put in any real work yet."

I stood up and grunted slightly before I looked at the clock seeing I have about an hour before I had to pick (Y/n) up. "They're out of shape, you can tell just by looking at them." I said annoyedly. I turned to the door and threw my towel behind me to Nitori. I walked outside and started to jog around campus. 'Victory means jack with someone in that condition,' I started thinking to myself, 'I refuse to count it as a win.' I jogged a bit faster wanting to look through my clothes before I saw (Y/n).

*(Y/n) POV*

The swim club just ended and I was sore all over. I winced slightly when I had to go up a few steps. Mako and I had just gotten home and I walked in the living room and plopped on the couch, wincing when I hit. "Ow." I said before flipping over. Mako looked over the couch and at me. He smiled and looked at the clock we had on the wall before chuckling and smiling at me.

"Well?" He asked. I tilted my head and looked at the clock now seeing it said 5:54 pm. I looked at Mako again and shrugged before shutting my eyes. There was a few minutes of silence before my eyes shot open and I sat up.

"Rin's coming over." I got up and bolted up the stairs hearing Mako laughing behind me. I ignored the pain and flew open my closet doors skimming over some outfit ideas. 'He said to dress comfy.' I thought back to this morning. I pulled out six outfits and looked at them all quizzically.

I suddenly heard the door knock causing me to become nervous. "One minute!" I shouted and picked out my favorite outfit and rushing into the bathroom.
