This had to be an embarrassing day for me. I was helping Nagisa, trying to recruit a new member. I held a few posters in my arms, and started handing them out to people, while Nagisa "persuaded" them to join the club. I didn't consider myself popular, but a lot of people were taking the posters, except I saw them throw them out every time. I listen to Nagisa ask a man with blue hair and red rimmed glasses, who was wearing a green backpack. I think his name was Rei Ryugazaki.
"Hey there. Interested in joining the swim club?" Nagisa asked energetically. Rei fixed his glasses with his index finger and thumb.
"Thanks, I've already decided on joining the track team." He walked away from him and Nagisa still was full energy. He put on googles, a swim cap, and carried a paddle board.
"Fellas! You guys should join the swim club cause it going to be the coolest!" He pointed the board in the students direction and waved it at them intently. I smiled and handed out a few more posters.
"You'll have to excuse me, but why would I care about swimming in a pool when the ocean is like, right there." One student said to him. A few minutes later Nagisa pulled out the little wooden figure Haru made.
"Join us today, and you'll get this!" He showed the figure to the people surrounding him. "Iwatobi's mascot, Little Iwatobi, the cutest mascot in the world!" I giggled a little, but everyone around us said 'no thanks' in unison. I sighed, and the two of headed towards the pool again. "So how many posters do you get out?" He asked hopefully. I looked at the stack, and I got most of them handed out.
"More like half the stack, but I saw a few throw them away." I said truthfully. Nagisa groaned and hung his head. As soon as we got in Nagisa laid down on a bench while Mako sat in a chair backwards. I walked over to Haru, who was still making 'Little Iwatobi'. I put my arms on his shoulders and watched him carve the wood into the figure.
"This really stinks. Not one single person wants to join. Are you sure you don't want to join (Y/n)?" He asked full of hope.
"I would, but I can't since I have diving." I said, still watching Haru carve.
"I'm starting to think we clean that pool for nothing." Mako said sadly.
"Don't say that!" Nagisa said. I heard some shuffling, but they were quiet for a few seconds, but Nagisa started talking again. "It's time to use our secret weapon!" I stood up and turned around to look at them.
"Secret weapon?" I asked.
"Mrs.A needs to give us the shirt off her back." He said sternly.
"What do you mean?" Mako questioned. Nagisa got close to Mako and put a finger up in the air.
"People might not like swim club, but I bet they'd love to see her prance around in a swim suit, right? We have to be proactive!" Mako didn't look impressed by Nagisa's idea.
"I see, so the shirt off her back comment was literal." He said annoyed. I saw in the doorway someone leaning on the frame.
"I'm sorry boys." I saw a look of fear cross both of their faces. "But no, no, NO!" She said with a dark aura surrounding her. She stomped over to the two. "Here is the deal. If you try to force me to do this, then I'll walk. I promised myself I'd never wear a swimsuit again and I have no intention on going back on that now, okay?" She asked with smile. "Are we clear?" They both had a look of fear on their faces still, which caused me to laugh. Both of them said 'Crystal!' With fear in their voices.
~Time skip~
I was next to Mako, helping him paint the fence. Gou had just walked over to us with a bag in her hands.
"I'll leave this juice here, in case you guys get thirsty." She said placing the bag next to Mako. Mako thanked her, but she started to talk again. "I'll be honest, I don't get it." Gou fixed her skirt and crouched down next to Mako.
"Get what?" Mako questioned her.
"If you guys are so pro swim club, why didn't you try to start when you were first years?" She asked. I knew part of the reason, but I never really knew why he agreed now. Mako smiled gently at her.
"We wanted to, but unfortunately Haru wasn't interested." He explained. I nodded in agreement.
"Even though he's a great swimmer?" The two of us nodded. I knew as much as Mako, so I started to talk.
"When we were in middle school, Haru joined the swim team," I started, but Mako helped me finish.
"But he quit at the end of the first season." Gou looked sentimental. I was always questioning why he did, but he never really spoke about it after.
"Why, did something happen?" She asked us. I shrugged.
"No idea. We tried to find out, but Haru didn't want to talk about it. Our old swimming club was shut down around the same time." He explained to her. I looked at Haru and Nagisa talking to each other, but Haru seemed focused on finishing the pool. "He hasn't done any competitive swimming since." My phone buzzed again. 'Why do people keep texting me!?' I questioned myself. I put the paint brush down and walked away from the two. The number on my phone was unknown, so I picked it up.
"Hello?" I asked nicely.
"Hi, this is (Y/n), right?" A small voice asked.
"Yes, who is this?" I asked sternly. They sound familiar.
"It's me, Nitori. I was told to call you from Rin? He wants to talk to you." Nitori explained. I groaned in frustration.
"Tell Rin I'll talk to him when I can, but not right now." I told him and I hung, blocking that number. I liked Nitori, but I know Rin was going to keep telling him to call me. I walked back over and started to paint again. I listened to Mako tell about the race between Haru and Rin at Samezuka. I started remembering after Haru had lost to Rin.
~Flashback~
I was wrapped in Nagisa's jacket, while Haru stood in the pool panting with his head down. He almost looked... content.
"You beat me fair in square." Haru turned to face Rin. "It's your win Rin, congratulations." They were looking at each other, but Rin looked annoyed.
"What the hell is that supposed to mean?!" He asked angrily. He swam over to Haru and grabbed him by his googles that were around his neck, and glared at him.
~End of Flashback~
"But then, a teacher who had heard the commotion busted us before anything happened." Mako finished.
"But why would losing the race make Haru happy?" Gou questioned. I finished painting my part of the gate, but listened a little more to the conversation.
"I think he just wanted to swim freely, you know? He rediscovered his love for swimming." Mako theorized. I got up and walked over to where Haru and Nagisa were. Nagisa noticed me coming over and waved at me energetically. I smiled and sat on the ledge of the pool.
"How's it coming along?" I asked.
"We're almost done over here." Nagisa answered. I smiled and watched Haru work. He's never this focused, so I was kinda mesmerized by his work. All of a sudden I heard Nagisa shout towards Mako.
"Did she say what I think she said?!" He shouted. I was in awe. They finally have four members?
"Yeah, Kou just offered to be our fourth swim club member!" He shouted to Nagisa. Nagisa was full of joy and stood up.
"That's so awesome! You know what this means, right? The swim club is officially open for business." He said happily. I saw Haru smile a little before Nagisa pulled me in and swung me around cheering. I laughed and we started going in circles laughing.
A/n: Another one out. I feel like I should build up your relationship with Nagisa more, but I'll figure it out as I go along. Thank you for over 300 reads, it means a lot to me. Anyway, there will probably be two more chapters until I start episode 3. See ya in the next chapter.
