Chapter Five
Raylan’s POV
I drove back to my house. We lived of a beaten path that if you didn’t know a house was there, you’d never know. We had put it, at least, two miles into the woods so that we could run if and when we wanted to. We owned about 200 acres. My house was also used for the pack house. A wall blocked off the pack house and our house. It was very easy though to call a meeting with my ranks if I wanted to.
- I need all hands on deck – I thought to my pack. That was probably the best and worst thing about being in a pack. Everyone can hear your thoughts if you aren’t holding your guard up.
All I heard was murmurs of “I’ll be right there”.
I headed to the packs spot right next to the lake. I tried to think of how I was going to say this to them. When they all arrived in wolf form, I decided to go around a tree and change as well. I guess this would be easier.
- What’s going on boss? - My beta, Johnny Lee, asked.
- You alright? - My third, Sawyer, asked looking confused by my silence. How was I going to tell them that I had found my mate? All they knew was Paisley. They were comfortable with her. I guess, they’ll have to get used to it. Ocie was going to be their female Alpha. Shortly, I might add.
- First, I have to say thank you for coming on such a short notice. I know almost all of you have mates and the ones that don’t still share things like girls do. On that note, I am going to ask that everyone take the oath of truth to what I’m about to tell you.- They all looked a little shocked. In our packs history, only so many times has the oath of truth been used. If any wolf goes against their Alpha and tells the secret that he wants kept, you’ll know who exactly it was. They will faint and not wake up until touched by the Alpha which insures forgiveness. If left for too long, however, you will die.
I waited for everyone to say “oath accepted.” As I listened, my Beta came in last. He was probably hurt that I didn’t discuss any of this with him before. He was at school today and thought I had just disappeared for pack business.
- As of today, our lives have changed. I don’t know fully yet if it was for the better or worse. I did, nonetheless, end my relationship with Paisley... – I heard gasps for the wolves; they all knew something was wrong. – When at school today, since I have been away on training for the year, I had went to introduce myself to Winter Greenop, and Mr. Downy’s daughter, Ocie. As soon as I saw Ocie, I knew we were mates, and so did she. It was instant. For the time being, she has rejected me because of Paisley.
This is what it has to do with all of you. If I don’t mate her within the new few months, I cannot accept the Alpha position in October. Thus, none of you can change into your titles as well. I need everyone to make sure she feels at home without giving it away that you know. I will know because the oath will show through. This is an order. She must not know that I have spoken with you. I will tell her when the time is right. – I waited to see what the others would say. As I spoke though, no one even blinked. I could hear that they were shocked that Paisley wasn’t my mate.
I watched as each individual gave me a nod of acceptance. I wasn’t meaning to make them do this and they were right to question why exactly I had done this. I honestly didn’t want my parents to find out that we had met. My dad wouldn’t understand if I told him. I wasn’t going to force this upon her. She was bread to be an Alpha. She would learn her place and come around, eventually. Hopefully, in time…
Paisley’s POV
I stood here for what felt like years. He was lying. I was his mate, we were mates. There was no way in hell that I was giving him up. All the times we made love, laughed, and played. There was no way he was just going to throw that away. He couldn’t; I was Alpha Female. I was the packs’ Deity. That position belonged to me.
My mother came to call for dinner, but I couldn’t move. This was the last place I had talked to Raylan and I wasn’t about to make the moments that just happened true by moving. I hated this. I hated everything about this. I couldn’t feel my body still shaking. I could smell my mother getting closer. If she touched me, I would lose it.
She could see I was shaking and asked me what was wrong. I wouldn’t say it out loud. I just wouldn’t.
- He left me… For his mate… - I thought to her and only her. I didn’t want my father to find out. He would be furious and storm to the Alpha. I didn’t want him getting hurt, or worse, get us kicked out.
“I’m so sorry, honey. I know Raylan’s been there through everything with you, but you will love another. You will love again. This means that you have a mate out there somewhere..”
“STOP TALKING MOTHER. HE IS MINE, HE WILL ALWAYS BE MINE!” I was panting I was breathing so heavy. I couldn’t let him go and I wouldn’t. My thoughts were racing as I thought of a plan. I didn't have a soild one or know when, but I knew what I wanted to do. He doesn’t know it now, but I will never let him go.
Fate is fate, but wars are better…
