Your POV

I ran towards Garroth's house, where the others were bound to be. I saw Travis along the road.

"Aphmau... at... portal," I gasped in between breaths. Travis nodded and ran towards the portal. I jogged to Garroth's house and knocked, opening the door once someone called for me to come in. I walked upstairs and caught my breath. In Garroth's room Laurance was sitting in a chair while Garroth got some much needed sleep.

"Aphmau's back," I said. Laurance nodded, but stayed where he was. I sighed, leaning against the wall. I was careful not to crush my tail.

"Should we go greet her?" I ask.

"Probably," Laurance responds with a shrug. He seems exhausted, and I wonder how much sleep he's gotten since we first entered the Nether. Probably next to none.

"You need to rest," I say, sounding too much like a mother for my liking. Laurance nods.

   "I know."

"Then why don't you?" I sass.

"Because the village needs a guard watching."

"Katelyn and Travis are perfectly healthy and capable of caring for this village."

   "Yep."

"Then just rest!" I shout, frustrated with the stubborn brunette sitting in front of me.

"Shhh, you'll wake Garroth." Laurance puts a finger to his lips. I growl quietly.

"Fine. Don't listen to me. I'm going to go say hi to Aphmau." I leave the room, just slightly irritated with Laurance. I roll my eyes but go greet the cheerful leader of this humble island village.

"Hi (Y/N)!" Aphmau chirps, engulfing me in a hug as soon as she sees me.

"Hey Aphmau. How are you? How was your trip?" I ask.

"I'm good, and the trip went great. It was nice seeing Nicole again." She smiled brightly. "Oh, I found someone on my way back. Although....." Aphmau trailed off, seeming a little sad.

   "Although what?" I ask.

"They're different." Aphmau's voice is a whisper, and a frown ruins her usually pretty face.

"People change over time, Aph. That's how life is," I try to comfort her.

"No, not like this," Aphmau says sadly, shaking her head.

"Hey Aphmau, who's this?" an unfamiliar voice asks. I turn around and see a shirtless man wearing a jacket and ripped black jeans. His onyx eyes and hair shine slightly in the sunlight.

"Aaron, meet (Y/N). (Y/N), meet Aaron," Aphmau introduces. I hold out my hand and Aaron shakes it, his grip strong. I feel like I recognize this guy, but I can't remember where he's from.
