<><><><><>Your POV
I was alone in the cell with a demon possessing Laurance. What a great way to start a chapter. Laurance stood with his back to the closed, and probably locked, door. I sighed, setting myself on the opposite end of the cell and looked at Laurance.
"Why? Why are you doing this?" I asked softly, my gaze leaving him and trailing to the floor.
"Haven't I told you? I hate you." I flinched at his harsh words. "You and Aph- excuse me, Lord Aphmau and all her friends never accepted me for who I was. You resented the Shadow side of me, and don't argue otherwise. You liked normal human Laurance, not his demonic Shadow side," Laurance stated, glaring at me. Something in his scarlet eyes flickered, and I couldn't tell if it was human Laurance speaking or Shadow Laurance. I pulled my knees to my chest and wrapped my arms around them.
"I'm sorry," I whispered. Laurance barked a laugh.
"I doubt it-"
"I heard about what you said to Garroth, and how you helped him when he didn't know who to trust. I'm sorry that I wasn't there, that no one was there to help you. We should've been there for you, but we weren't." I couldn't stop the words coming from my mouth. As I spoke, I stood up and slowly approached Laurance. "I don't know what you're inner demons you're facing, but from now on I'll be here to help." I was within arms length. "I promise." I spread my arms for a hug, but Laurance didn't move. He didn't move as I slowly closed the gap and wrapped my arms around him. He only flinched when I put my head on his chest, his almond colored hair mixing with my (H/C) locks.
"(Y-Y/N)?" I looked up. Laurance's eyes were flickering between red and blue. I hugged him tighter. I felt his arms hesitantly wrap around me. I looked up and stood on tiptoe, placing a gentle kiss on Laurance's cheek. He looked at me with his beautiful periwinkle eyes.
"I'll see if I can get the others back here and then out of here. I promise," Laurance solemnly stated. I nodded and let go reluctantly.
"Good luck," I replied as Laurance left. I sat back down and waited.
Laurance's POV
Closing the door on (Y/N), I turned back to the hallway. Briskly walking in the direction of the others, I tried to think of a plan where everyone could get out successfully. I turned the corner and walked to where Garroth was supposed to be, key word being supposed. I stopped short, but started jogging down the hall towards where Katelyn and Travis were supposed to be. Their cells, too, were empty. I ran my fingers through my longer than usual hair before running to the entrance to the jail area. Going row by row, I checked each cell for anyone with blonde hair, blue hair, or white hair with no luck. Reaching the final row, I finally found Travis and Katelyn in cells across from each other, with Katelyn being unconscious.
"What happened?" I asked Travis.
"Hmm, I don't know you stupid traitor!" Travis screamed at me. "Oh, Katelyn please be okay," he hummed.
"I'm sorry, I wasn't myself. Do you know where Garroth is?" I asked.
"No, he was taken a different way than Katelyn and I, and I lost sight of him after Katelyn was knocked unconscious." I moved to unlock Travis's door. He waited impatiently as I unlocked Katelyn's. He rushed in and sat cradling her head.
"Come on, I'm taking you back to (Y/N) so you can start planning an escape while I look for Garroth."
"How do I-"
"Just carry Katelyn bridal style. It shouldn't be too difficult," I cut him off. I quickly led Travis to (Y/N)'S cell and opened the door, ushering him in. I let it swing shut before heading to the main hall of the Fortress. Realizing that people could recognize me by my blue eyes, I hesitated. Should I risk going in normally, or should I risk trying to control my Shadow form? Puzzling over this, I was interrupted by a voice behind me.
"Oh, Laurance, I've been looking for you. How's my dear sister?" Valery asked sarcastically.
"She's just fine," I replied, not turning around. Valery would for sure notice my eyes changing, so I decided to risk the Shadow form. Squeezing my eyes shut, I allowed the Shadow Soul inside me to flow through me, but resisted its control. Turning around, I smiled wickedly at Valery, and waved as she left. Sighing, I quickly suppressed the Shadow. Being half Shadow Knight was exhausting mentally, but I refused to let my guard down as I searched the main halls for my blonde friend. Finally, I checked the dorm halls, the only place that I hadn't scouted. Opening my door, the first on the left, I sighed in relief as I saw Garroth laying still in my bed. I closed my door and leaned against it, sliding to the floor. I was relieved, but confused. Why was Garroth in my room?
