Chapter 11
I pulled up into Chrissy's driveway wiping tears from my face. This is where I belonged. This is where I was welcome, wanted even; needed.
Why hadn't I confronted my parents about me being alive? I guess it was because I was scared. They'd hate me if they found out I went to Chrissy before I went to them. It'd tear them apart that I went shopping, of all things, before I went to the police. I couldn't explain my decisions. Couldn't even try to.
When I jumped out of the van, Colton was already by my side. He must've saw the tears.
"What happened Adrianna? Did he hurt you?" he said holding my arms. He was so warm and comforting. I loved being in his arms.
"No. I-I saw my parents." I mumbled into his chest. He rubbed my arms.
"Oh." he said. I liked that he wasn't asking questions yet. Not about where I saw them or what happened when I did. It was like he understood my pain.
"Let's go in. You look like you need something to eat." I started laughing uncontrollably hard. How could he be thinking about food? I found it funny. He must've been thinking I was crazy!
And maybe I was. But I think I was more crazy about him than anything.
Chrissy was in town so I was alone with Colton. He could see I was exhausted and getting very depressed.
When we got inside, Colton lifted me off my feet and carried me into the room where me and Ella had been staying. He lied me down, and was about to leave the room, when I grabbed his wrist.
"Stay with me until I fall asleep." I mumbled groggily. He nodded and silently crawled in beside me. My eyes shut and he leaned his forehead against mine. His warm, minty breathe blew into my face, making me feel even more peaceful. He was my protection, my safety net. I could fall back onto it whenever I had too much pressure against me.
My eyes opened so that I was looking into his. We were both silent until he raised his finger to my lips and traced them.
"You're beautiful. You always were."
I smiled. The last person who said that to me had been Brayden. But Colton sounded sincere. It was like he was in some sort of trance.
"I missed you." his lips squished against my forehead. My body went hot with an electricity as I tingled everywhere. I suddenly wasn't sad anymore. If I could feel alive again, then I had the strength to tell my parents I was still here.
Something changed in me that night. Something mended the half of me that had been broken. If I had him, I could go back to my old life. I could be the happy go lucky, confident, Adrianna again.
"Thank you." I whispered just as I fell asleep. He heard me, and responded just as I fluttered into a dream world. There were no nightmares for me that night. Not one. For the first time in five years, I slept well.
My only dream, was of Ella, Colton and me, all living together in a cabin as far from Salvatore as possible. In exchange for me keeping the kidnapping from the police, he'd sign custody of Ella over to me. We'd all be happy, even Ella.
I woke up in the morning with the sun beating down on my face. It was warm, but not just from the rays. Colton still had me in his arms. When I opened my eyes, he was already up.
"When you sleep, it's like your in a different world. You seem so at peace." he said gently. He was right, I was at peace. The dream brought me hopes of a brighter future. Of even having a future.
Chrissy tapped on the door lightly. I figured she already knew that Colton was in here.
"Yeah we're up!" I called and climbed out of bed. I was still in my clothes from yesterday, but I had no other outfits. Colton must've known what I was thinking.
