Chapter 7

"If you get in the car with him, I'll follow you and kill him myself." said a voice behind me. I spun around to face Brayden. "Don't make me do it!"

Salvatore unrolled the windows when he saw Brayden. "What's he doing here?" he screamed. They looked at each other like they really were going to murder one another.

Ella buried he little face into my shoulder and covered her ears. She wasn't used to screaming. Sal and I never rose our voice at each other.

"Brayden! Go away! This is my choice and I chose Salvatore!" I ran to the car and hoisted Ella up into Salvatore's arms. I knew Brayden was close behind so I gave her to him to strap in while I climbed in through the door. I nearly made it, before Brayden pulled me out. He caught me before I fell to the ground.

"I won't let you go again." he whispered to me before screaming at Salvatore. "I called the cops! They'll be here any second!"

The door I had been trying to climb in slammed, and I heard a muffled, "I'm sorry Adrianna! I can't go to jail!" that was all I heard before he sped away.

I held my hand over my heart as I dropped to the ground sobbing. Brayden's arms were tight around me. My hand seemed to be trying to hold my heart from dropping to my stomach... too late.

"Ella!" I screamed as I watched them speed away in the blue van. "My baby!"

Brayden started to whisper his apologies. Nothing could calm me down now. I just lost my husband - and my baby.

Get off of me!" I scream shoving Brayden off. I didn't want to look at him, let alone have his skin against mine. "Ella was in there! I lost my baby because of you!"

He ran a hand through his hair like he's always done when he gets nervous. "I didn't think, okay? I'm really sorry! We can get her back!" he said, nearly in tears for the second time today.

"What are you going to tell the police when the get here?" I asked between sobs. I was now kneeling on the curb wishing nothing in the last twenty minutes had happened.

Brayden laughed nervously. "Uh, there actually wasn't any police. I just said that so he'd leave you here..."

I stopped crying. I stopped breathing. "It was your plan to have him speed off with my baby?" I was on a thin line of going crazy, killing him, and passing out.

He shook his head. "How was I supposed to know you were going to throw your baby in there?" His voice sounded a lot like an accusation.

Now I was leaning toward the side of crazy. "Now it's my fault? Don't EVER talk to me again!"

Now he was crying. Hard too. "I'm sorry Adrianna! I couldn't lose you again! You mean everything to me!"

I stood up and slung my shopping bag over my shoulder. Then I whipped the cell phone he gave me at his head. "Sorry means nothing." I said coldly and walked in the way I thought home was. I couldn't be sure because I had only gone to the lake house once and left it once. I don't know the way, but I had to find it. If not for me, for Ella.

I didn't think anyone's heart could hurt so much. My little Ella was gone with the man I loved. I did understand why Salvatore took off the way he did. If Brayden told the police that he kidnapped me, then they'd ask about Ella. Brayden would tell them that he raped me and even when I would deny it, they would charge him. The police would assume that I was covering for him.

He had to go. If he ended up in jail, Brayden, Cayleen and the others would tell them that he kidnapped them, too. It's good that he ran, I decided. My daughter can't have a father in jail.
