Chapter 22
***Brayden's POV***
Salvatore had saved me. I was near death when I saw him slowly padding his way up the dock. When he sat, he looked down at his reflection. From my angle I could tell he was crying. But I needed help before it was too late.
"Salvatore!" I screamed. I only knew him through Adrianna, but surely he wouldn't hold such a grudge as to leave me here to die.
He looked up instantly, embarrassed. Embarrassment changed to confusion. "Brayden?" he called to me. He rose to get a better look, probably wondering why I was chained to a tree. Well, I got myself here in the first place. I just needed a little help getting out.
"Yeah. Help?"
He nodded and jogged over to me. It was about midmorning and it wasn't yet hot. The two of us worked together long and hard to wiggle me free of chains. It was a huge relief to move again.
"What happened?" he asked, like we were old friends or something. Guess he doesn't hold a grudge.
"I did something stupid and hurt Adrianna." I prepared to face a punch. It never came. "Don't you hate me? I was my fault Adrianna left in the first place."
He considered this. While he was thinking I couldn't help but notice how different he looked from Ella. She was a small, blue-eyed blond. He was muscular and with dark black hair. His eyes resembled hot coals to match the color of his hair.
"No. I don't hate you. Adrianna didn't love me in the first place. Not like she loved you. It's Ella that I need." he mumbled. His eyes began to water, but he pushed the tears back. "I don't know where to find my beautiful little girl."
"I do." I said, thinking that Colton had to come back at some time. "Colton has her. He'll be back for me. Then you can ask him where she is."
I knew where she was, too, of course. But I wanted to see Colton get beat. He deserved that.
And now, as I witness it happen before me, I realize something that I should've before. Something crucial to Adrianna. There was only one thing to do.

I thought we were just going to knock him around a little. Maybe give him a black eye or something. But no, Salvatore was on him like a lion on it's dinner, choking him to death.
"What do you think you're doing?" I cried as I franticly pulled him off Colton. Salvatore's hair was drenched with sweat from the sudden strength he had gained to try and kill Colton.
"What was that all about?" he shrieked at me. "I thought this was the plan! He's getting what he deserves! He took Adrianna from you and Ella from me!"
I looked over at Colton. He lay limp on the ground, his head rolled to one side. Bruises were already forming around his neck.
"What did you do?" I sputtered. My best friend that I had ever had was out like a light. Whether he was dead or not - well, I couldn't tell. All I knew was that I was furious.
"Like I said; he got what he deserved! Now I can have my Ella back. My sweet, kind, little girl. She never wanted to go with Adrianna and him anyway!" he replied. But he was wrong. If anyone deserved to have such a great life; great family, it was him. As much as I hated to admit it, he was the best guy I ever known. If he was dead, revenge would need another place in my life.
I stepped forward to check his pulse, but Sal threw me to the ground. I landed hard on my arm, and pain pulsed through me, threatening to knock me out. Broken arm, I thought. But I wouldn't go down without a fight. If Colton wasn't dead already, Sal would surely kill him while I couldn't defend. If I had to die for Colton, so be it. It's what Adrianna would've wanted.
