***Chapter 1 - Part 1***

A loud scream escapes my throat as I'm thrown to the floor. I hear the words echo through my mind again and again.

"There is an intruder in the school. He has a gun. Get in a classroom and lock the door. Don't open for anyone."

I was immediately knocked to the ground and lost from my classmates as panicked students race to the nearest classroom. I look around for an open door, only to find that there are none.

Up ahead I see Brayden pounding on the glass door yelling. I can't understand his muffled cries, but I see a teacher try to calm him down from across the room.

There's a noise coming from the stairway that warns me of my upcoming fate. It is only confirmed when I see a man in black round the corner with gun in hand.

Brayden stops pounding and starts sobbing. He's trying to communicate with me, but there's no way I can escape.

A memory forms in my mind that brings a sense of calmness. It's the day me and Brayden started dating. It's a bitter sweet moment, thinking it could be the last time I get to see him.

It's interrupted by a jerking on my arm, forcing me to stand. The mans mouth is right beside my ear.

"Are you going to cooperate, or do I have to kill you?" he asks with danger in his voice.

The look on Brayden's face is filling my heart with pain, but I can't let him see me die.

"I'll be good." I say as he backs me toward the double doors in the back. I let out a breathe and try to signal to Brayden that I'll be okay.

Once he had me thrown into the back of his midnight blue van, he sped away like he just robbed a bank. Normally, a person in my situation would be freaking out on their account. It was the opposite for me.

The tears threatened to spill over the brim of my eye. I held them back trying to be strong because I knew Brayden would want me to be. All I could think about was the way he was crying and pounding on the glass. Everyone else who had watched had already dismissed me as beyond help. There was only one person who didn't give up on me.

"I'm sorry Brayden." I whisper and huddle in the corner. My heads resting in between my legs because that's what my parents always tell me to do when I'm panicking.

When I get too excited, about good things or bad, I hyperventilate. Sometimes it gets to the point where my body's oxygen level drops rapidly and I black out. It happens quite often actually.

With all my heart, I wished Brayden had been with me. But I knew he would've made them take him instead. Before I wouldn't have thought that, but after seeing his reaction to my abduction, I knew it to be true.

The van pulls to a stop much later, and is followed by the man opening the back doors.

"I'm still up for shooting you, so behaving or I'll plant one of these" he nods to his gun that he's loading with bullets. "clear threw your head."

I shiver at the imagery and climb out of the van. He has me in grip and is pulling me toward some sort of lake house.

On the side of the lake house was a cellar door. The man shoved me into it and shut the doors behind me.

I hit the cement ground hard and let out a sharp cry. I shook it off, though, and stood to evaluate the room.

In one corner, there was a small table and counter. On the other side of e room was a king sized bed, completed with big fluffy pillows. I started toward it when I heard her.

"You aren't very observing, are you?" she asked in an innocent voice. I spun around to face a group of girls of all different ages.

"Who are you?" I asked. They looked at each other and sighed.

"We're in the same boat as you. Kidnapped from our school on June 11 of all different years. We were all took in grade 9 by Salvatore. This is where we-" she pauses trying to think of a word. I can tell she's the oldest. "survive." she finishes.

They all rise. The oldest steps forward. "I'm Cayleen. That's Pardon. That's Handrewa and that's Rowenna." she says in order from oldest to youngest. "Welcome to our family."

While the other girls are sitting by the tv watching a movie, I sit on the bed in a heap.

What would Brayden do if he was separated from me? I think. Then a thought comes over me - he never took my phone!

I pull it out and realize I have to service. A huge bubble of disappointment overwhelms me. I almost start to cry when I notice I have two missed calls and four text messages. I go through them. They're all from Brayden.

I hold the phone up to my ear when I see he left a message in voicemail. He's sobbing uncontrollably. "I love you! Promise you'll come back to me! Please be okay! We're trying to track you! Stay in service range!" It cuts off and leaves his voice ringing through my mind.

I drop the phone to the bed and walk up to the cellar door. When I pull on it, it stays hinged. My stomach drops as well as my body. Pardon runs over to soothe me.

"It's not so bad here." she whispers and pulls strands of hair away from my face. I push her away and dive under the safety of the blankets. Then I hear him.

"Come on girls." I stop breathing.
