Hey guys. I'm grounded and my chapters are going to take a little longer to finish now but please continue to read this! It would mean a lot!

Chapter 18

***Colton's POV***

After I calmed down enough to really access the situation, I discovered she wasn't gone yet, to my relief. Her chest was slowly moving up and down and she still, but barely, had a pulse. The second I found this out, my first instinct was to kiss her and tell her everything would be fine. But I needed to do something that could save her from the sickly thing that was feeding off her body.

I wandered down the hill until I got cell reception. I had to go down pretty far, and I was reluctant to leave Adrianna alone in case something were to happen while I was gone. I called for an ambulance.

I ran back up to Adrianna and held her, sobbing uncontrollably. She was hanging onto life by a thread and her cheeks were pasty white and thin. She looked so unhealthy, so different. I pecked her lips softly, urging her to wake up. She didn't.

Adrianna didn't react to my touch. If she were sleeping, usually she would awaken when I kissed her. But not this time.

~~~
How could Brayden do this to us? I hadn't seen any of my kids in days because of him, and now I'm waiting for an ambulance to arrive to pick up my wife. Ella was still sick, probably worrying about the fact that nobody's really been to see her lately. Guilt flooded over me, I couldn't help it.
He was a selfish, terrible person. I had half a mind to leave him chained to a tree, but I couldn't do it. If I was going to kill him, I wouldn't use torture. That's inhuman. What I could do, was search around for an old hunting gun. That'd be perfect.
"I love you Adri." I whispered to her and took her hand. "Everything's going to be okay. You're the strongest girl I know. You will pull through."
My voice sounded as if I was trying to convince myself of this. It was shaky and kept cracking, holding back more strangled sobs. It was all I could do to not cry.
Her hair hung in her eyes. If they were open, she would've pushed them away. So I did it for her. She was so pretty and quiet. Her soft skin tone had changed to the pasty white color, taking away her rosy cheeks and bombarding them to the point where there was very little blood circulation. Deathly, almost. I loved her unconditionally and nothing could break us apart. Not even Brayden. I'd make sure of that.
Sirens sounded at the bottom of the hill. I kissed her forehead and exited the farmhouse to meet them.
I showed them where Adrianna was on the floor. They looked worried, but they were trying so hard to stay professional. It was very concerning.
They wheeled her into the back of the hospital quickly. She disappeared behind the doors, and the doctors and nurses were swarming her. I rushed to keep up with them.
"Plug her into an IV immediately. Pump her with liquids and keep her breathing at all times! We can save her!" one called as he followed them into the ER room. She was gone and out of sight within minutes.
Ella was just upstairs, but I couldn't leave without knowing about Adrianna. I needed to be the first person she saw when she woke up. I HAD to be! I'd do anything to be.
"Please let me go in with her!" I begged the doctor that came out to meet me. He glanced at his assistant looking very guilty, a little apologetic even.
"We will let you in. Her chances of surviving are at about fifty-fifty. This may be your last time to be with her." he said slowly. His hand rested on my shoulder. I was terrified. Adrianna was a fighter! She'd make it through! She had to!
