Chapter 15

Ella's feverish hand wrapped into mine. Every day her temperature was getting slightly higher. She wasn't healthy. Not in the least, and it was killing me. She showed even more signs of weakness: walking slower, breathing strange, skin as pale as a vampire. Everything showed she was being attacked by the disease.

"Mommy, Dr. Reynold's says chemotherapy will make me bald. Then I won't look as pretty as you." she whimpered. She had never looked so worn out and drained. Even her voice was quite and soft.

"Ella Bell, you're one of my beautiful children. You'll look amazing with or without hair." I said. Her blue eyes lit up as I spoke. She really was pretty. I couldn't believe she was all mine. She was so angelic and perfect.

"Love you, Mommy." she said when her Chemotherapist Dr. Reynold's walked in. She wandered up to her doctor.

"Would you like your Mom to come in with you Ella?" she asked, squatting down to Ella's height. She placed her hand on her shoulder. Ella shook her head.

"I'm a brave girl. My Mommy said so." and off they were. She truly was an amazing girl. Brave she was, proving to me once again she was strong.

I waited in the lobby for Colton. He had an emergency to deal with back home, including the twins. The two of them loved to torment their Father. It was cute, and evil at the same time. I loved it. But right now, I wished we could all sit here and face reality together. It would be so much easier to have them here with me.

When Colton finally burst through the doors, he spotted me, flopped down in the chair next to me and let out an exhausted sigh. "Mike thought it would be funny to let Luna out of the yard!" Colton mumbled. He loved that dog even more than I did so he must've been running pretty fast to keep up with her. Now he was here, though, and he would have to deal with much worse.

"Well, we have three smart kids." I comforted and rubbed between his shoulder blades. It seemed to relax him. "Sometimes they're too smart."

He nodded and took my hand in his. I instantly warmed to his touch.

"Ella didn't want me to go in. Guess she's even more brave then we give her credit for!" I laughed, holding back tears. Really, I was freaking out. My baby was in chemotherapy. Never would I have thought my life would be affected by cancer. Our family would fight everything that came our way. To top it off, she was growing up and thought she didn't need me as much anymore.

They put Ella in a room. We started chemotherapy nearly two weeks ago, but she's too weak to go home. I don't think Dr. Reynolds trusts me enough to make sure no germs encounter her. I guess it's for the best. She needs to stay away from any flu viruses, or it could end her...

She has a roomate with cancer, too. The girls met the first day that Ella moved in. Her name was Sydney, and, in a way, she looked like Ella. Their blue eyes were the same shade and their cheeks were equally skinny. Both were tiny and thin, bony and fragile. And beautiful.

"I'm Sydney!" the little girl said in a perky voice the first time we entered the room. She shot us a radiant grin, her eyes sparkling and full of hope.

"Sydney! Give people their space! Let them get comfortable before you chase them out of their rooms!" a lady laughed. I guessed she was Sydney's Mom. She had shoulder length brown hair and greyish blue eyes. She was a few years older than me, and very pretty. In a business woman like way. Her eyes looked tired, but trying desperately not to show it.

"It's okay! This is Ella." I introduced the girls, who quickly became friends. Then I introduced myself to the other lady. "I'm Adrianna Smoke. Ella's Mom."
