I sat there lounging in a lawn chair playing on my phone waiting for one of the guys. "Dallas Hanchey is that you?" I looked up seeing an old friend. "Well if it isn't Ariel Santos." I said greeting her. "Oh some guy named Darren tried to hit on me." She said.

"Oh don't fall for his antics. He's a terrible guy and won jerk of the year." I said. "Thank you for letting me know before I gave him an answer." She said. "No problem." I said. Then Brody came out.

He stopped short. "Um. Dallas. We need to get over the stalls so we can practice." He said keeping his eyes on Ariel. "Oh this is Ariel. She's an old friend of mine." I said. He nodded before going up to her introducing himself. Her sister came up dragging her away.

"Oh does my big brother have a crush?" I asked him in a gushy voice. He muttered something. "You do don't you?" I asked. "There are no secrets between us." He said as he opened the trailer door. "Hey if you want to date her she's single and is looking for a good guy to sweep her off her feet." I said as we both walked in.

He scoffed. "And where does that put you and Kyson?" He asked. "What do you mean?" I asked him. "Every time I look at y'all when we're together you two look at each other like our parents look at each other." He said.

"And yet I don't notice." I said. "Because your so blind as to what's in front of you. I know you like him. You just see the friendship in front of you two and think it will go to ruin if you two started dating." Brody told me.

Kyson entered with a curious look on his face. "Ok then how about I go check on the horses." I said. He knew that was the phrase to back off and give me time. I stepped out of the trailer and walked to the stalls. Once there I cleaned all six before saddling my two. Brody and Kyson came up and saddled their two.

Our parents came from the booths and fair that was going on. I mounted Jack before ponying Daniel. When I don't wanna be bothered I stay quiet and out of the way of everyone else. As I got to the ring some guy hitched his horse next to mine.

"How are you Dallas?" He asked. "I don't know James. How do you think I am?" I asked James Gray a friend of Hanly's. "Brody tick you off once again?" He asked. "When does he not?" I asked. "Want my advice?" He asked. "If there's an opportunity to get what you need take it. Needs and wants are the two things you have to worry about. Keep your needs higher than your wants, Dall. It'll keep you from falling under." He said before leading his horse away.

He was always like an uncle to us all. I pondered what he was saying trying to make sense of it. Nothing coming to mind.

I loaded my two up before taking two more. My birthday is tomorrow and we'll be on the road. As I locked the back of the trailer up Kyson caught me before I could go get in. "I. Wanted to give you your present from me early because I know the three of us will be traveling all day tomorrow." He said handing me a small wrapped box.

"I don't care when you open it." He said. I glanced down at it before hugging him.

Kyson

Why can't I say a sentence to her without stuttering? It's because she's so beautiful that I can't stand it. I hugged her back before watching her open the box. It costed me almost three hundred dollars to get it.

Dallas

I opened the box seeing a necklace. A horseshoe shaped necklace with diamonds and rubies.

I had to hug him again

I had to hug him again. "OH my gosh it's beautiful!" I said wrapping my arms around his neck. I felt my feet lift off the ground. He set me down before asking, "Would you like me to help you put it on?" I nodded. He clasped it around my neck letting the pendant fall onto my chest. "It looks beautiful on you." He said. The comment caught me off guard. He then nodded his head towards the truck. Signaling that we need to get going.

"First one to the cab get shotgun." He said. I took off running with him hot on my heels. I grabbed the handle the door opening with my slide. I jumped in before closing the door. He got in the backseat and rolled his eyes. I tried to stifle my giggle. Brody got in wondering what had happened.
