Chapter Thirteen

I was in a field of mist, or, was it fog? I waved my hands through the air to get rid of this, I paused trying to think of a word, stuff.

"Moses." a voice cried out to me. I turned around, only seeing this smoky mist. I tried walking but it seemed to stretch to the ends of the earth.

"Moses!" the voice shouted at me, coming from the other direction. "In the morning you will meet Pharaoh at the Nile's edge." said the voice. It must have been the Lord speaking then.

"Tell Pharaoh," God continued, "to let my people go to worship me. If he does not tell him I shall send flies. They will infect the homes of your officials, your people, and your homes."

I now knew that I had to meet Pharaoh at the waters and that the next plague would be flies. However, to be perfectly honest, I was more interested in this fog. I used my hand to swat it away, to slice through it. Nothing would get rid of it.

Where am I? I was sure I was not in Egypt. I came up with two ideas, either I was in the mind of God, or I was dreaming a vision. I ruled out the first, God's mind would be more active and, full. Wait, I always woke up from dreams if I knew it was a dream.

"I will make this plague different from the past ones." The Lord spoke again. "There will be no swarms of flies where the Israelites live. In this way you will know it is I, the Lord, who does this. I am the Lord over this land. I will separate my people of that from the people of Egypt. All that I have said will happen tomorrow."

Finally, a plague that would not hurt anyone but the Egyptians. This would drive my brother crazy, prove to him who he is dealing with. I waited for a voice, but heard none. I looked up and saw more of this fog. I looked down and saw that I was standing on it too, though it felt strangely soft.

I decided to test it. I had things to do today. I did a small jump in place. I sunk a little into this mist and seemed to bounce right back up. I let myself fall backward, expecting it just hurt my back. Instead as I fell and sunk into the cloud like ground; opening my eyes and was in my tent. So it was a dream!

I took a deep breath to calm myself. As I wiped the sleep from my eyes, I realised that was most likely the strangest dream I have ever had. Or was it a vision? I looked over my left shoulder to see my wife was still asleep.

I carefully left as not to disturb her and went into the cold air. I looked into the distance, darkness still lingering. I could see the sun starting to peek out from its hiding place, deciding to show its glowing face once again.

I loved that about the sun, it is reliable. Just like the Lord. The older I grow the more I learn that few things you can depend on, to trust. The sun always rises in the east and sets in the west. It is never late. Sometimes I felt as if the sun was God's way of reminding me He was always there with me.

"Awake?" someone said. I jumped when I heard him, it was Aaron.

"You scared me." I scolded him. He flashed a mischievous grin and folded his arms in front of his chest. "Beautiful is it not?" he said. "The sun I mean." he said, nodding his head towards it.

I nodded. "Why are you up, brother?" I asked, curious.

"Moses," he sighed. "I wanted to talk to you."
