This was a request for Monsterfalls9 who wanted Will proposing while they're on America's Got Talent, so here you go! Also I'm not exactly sure about how America's Got Talent works, so I'm sorry for any mistakes. Also, shout out to my friend crustbucket for helping me pick out the song, since she is very knowledgeable about music written in the last century. I put the lyric video at the top, in case anyone wanted to listen to it.
Will's POV
We stood underneath the harsh glow of the L. E. D. lights backstage of America's Got Talent, listening to the act on stage play the piano and sing a song. The woman's voice was pure, lifting up like leaves in the wind. Nico wiped his sweaty palms on his black dress pants, straining his ears to better listen to the singing woman.
"She's really good," he fretted. "How are we going to beat her?" He glanced at me for comfort, and I melted at the sight of his dark brown eyes gazing into mine.
"Don't worry, Neeks, I've got a surprise that will assure our place in the next round," I promised him, fidgeting with the gold band stashed away in the pocket of my pants, twinning perfectly with Nico's.
"And what is this special surprise?" Nico asked, slowly wrapping his arms around my neck, drawing me in for a long kiss.
"Our outfits, Neeks, I've told you already." Nico made a face that looked suspiciously like disgust.
"I have no idea why I let you talk me into this," he complained, toying with the edge of his gold sequined vest, the one that matched his glittering gold bowler hat perfectly.
"I think you look amazing," I told him.
"Really?"
"Well, I think you look amazing in everything, so I might be biased." He gave me a smack on the arm, rolling his eyes.
"Why are you always such a flirt?" he groused. "I'm nervous."
"Are you telling me that my award winning flirting skills aren't helping?" He let a small smile replace his frown.
"Maybe a little bit," he smirked. "But don't go showing them to the judges. Your flirting skills are reserved for me and me alone."
"You have my word," I assured him.
"Good." We fell silent, still listening to the woman sing. "Can we sit down until we go up?" he asked.
"Of course," I responded. We each took a hard, plastic chair, the ones that reminded me of middle school. Nico, being closest to the stage, peered through the crack in the curtains, watching the woman wrap up her piece and stand in front of the judges. I could see her hands trembling as the judges cleared their throats, preparing their scores.
"We're up next," Nico groaned, turning away from the curtain.
"We're going to do great," I assured him. "Besides, we have a secret weapon up our sleeve."
Nico's POV
"Next up to perform will be Nico Di Angelo and William Solace, singing 'Kiss from a Rose' by Seal. Nico and William, please come up to the stage." I grabbed Will's hand, squeezing it tightly before walking out from backstage. He pushed back the curtain, revealing hundreds of people staring at us, watching as we slowly made our way to the center of the stage, our footsteps echoing in the huge room. Two microphones were waiting for us, Will taking one for himself and handing me the other one. The microphone felt different in my hand than it usually did, although it could have been a result of my nerves.
"Are you ready to begin?" asked a young woman, leaning into her microphone to be heard. As if our minds were completely in sync, Will and I nodded. We sat in silence for a second until the instrumental music started to play out of the speakers mounted high on the pristine walls. i waited out the beginning, readying myself for the first verse, which doubled as my part. Taking a deep breath, readying myself for one of the most important events of my life, I began to sing.
"There used to be a greying tower alone on the sea
You became the light on the dark side of me
Love remained a drug that's the high and not the pill
But did you know that when it snows
My eyes become large and the light that you shine can be seen?"I felt my hands shaking as my part came to a close and Will and i started the chorus, my higher voice and his lower one blending perfectly, two completely different things coming together to make something perfect.
"Baby, I compare you to a kiss from a rose on the grey
Ooh, the more I get of you, the stranger it feels, yeah
Now that your rose is in bloom
A light hits the gloom on the grey." I lowered my microphone, taking a breath as Will began his part."There is so much a man can tell you, so much he can say
You remain my power, my pleasure, my pain
Baby, to me, you're like a growing addiction that I can't deny
Won't you tell me, is that healthy, baby?
But did you know that when it snows
My eyes become large and the light that you shine can be seen?" They were just the lyrics of the song we had chosen, but somehow I felt as if Will had written them just for me. He crooned the words into the microphone, gazing straight at me. I felt my cheeks heat up as the entire audience turned to stare at me, watching Will profess his love. His part ended and we launched into the rest of the song, my singing unquestionably stronger with Will's voice there to aid it. We ended the song, earning a standing ovation from the crowd. However they fell silent, watching with wide eyes as Will got down on one knee, pulling a gold band out of his pocket.
"Nico Di Angelo for years you have been my power, my pleasure, my pain. You have been the light on the dark side of me and my kiss from a rose. However, even though you're so many things to me, I'm selfish. I want you to be one more thing to me. My husband." He took a deep breath, adjusting his position so he was directly facing me. "Nico Di Angelo, will you marry me?"
I couldn't breathe. Everyone was staring at me, waiting with baited breath for my answer.
"It's a yes from me," I finally said, mustering a small smile amid all of the emotions going through my head. The audience broke into applause, some stomping their feet. Will's smile split open his face as he slipped the ring on my finger, drawing his thumb over my hand.
"I love you so much," he murmured, only quiet enough for the two of us to hear.
"I love you, too," I whispered, not wanting to let the audience in on our conversation. He stood up, holding my hands like we were in a movie. That't the position we stayed in for a few moments, the audience content with watching our love blossom in front of them until one of the judges cleared her throat, the same young woman who had asked us if we were ready to begin.
"Would you like to hear how you did?" she asked, discreetly wiping a tear from the corner of her eye. I nodded, taking Will's hand as we turned to face her. The ring was sitting on my finger, reminding me that whatever happened, today would still be the best day of my life. "We loved the way your voices blended together, creating the harmonies that were essential to your piece. The costumes were wonderful," she gestured to the sequin covered vests and sparkly gold bowler hats. "And the chemistry in real life matched the song perfectly." A smile tugged at the corner of her mouth. "And have to say that the proposal brought it all together, everything from the references to the song to the very real love between the two of you." I squeezed Will's hand tighter, knowing that we were about to find out whether we would be advancing to the final part of the competition.
"When you consider all of these things put together, we have decided that you two will be advancing to the final round," the young woman said, wrapping up her verdict with a smile. Will pulled me in for a hug, smiling in relief as the crowd cheered behind us.
Hi guys! I hope you liked that one!
