Will's POV

He doesn't know why it feels so good. He's kissed people before; quick pecks at dances, sitting on the edge of his bed, sprawled out across the park in the dead of night, watching stars glitter above them. But this, with his arm around Nico's waist, sitting on the edge of the bunk as they hear voices in the distance, feels different. He feels closer to Nico, as if they're being pulled together by some invisible force that wants Will to find something special, finally, after so many years of conversations fizzling out and first dates gone wrong. This is the first time he's felt this spark, something between them that feels like fizzling electricity, something that makes him want to keep kissing and never stop.

There are points when he thinks they'll just keep going. Nico has never seemed to be the type of person to have much stamina but their lips stay locked, Nico's hand gripping the back of Will's head, and the only thing that crosses his mind is that, if they never stopped, he'd be happy. But then they hear the door swing open and Percy and Austin walk in, laughing about something that Will doesn't know about. The laughter dies down when they see Will and Nico sitting two inches apart, Nico's face flushed and Will's chest heaving as he fights to catch his breath. Percy cocks an eyebrow and Austin glances at Percy, grinning. Austin has sort of an I told you so look in his eyes, and it makes Will's skin feel sticky.

"Did we interrupt something?" Percy asks, his eyes darting from Nico to Will back to Nico, his smile growing with every passing second.

"No," Nico says, shaking his head. "Will was just showing me his comic book." Nico glances at him and Will nods, subtly enough that he hopes Percy and Austin won't notice. Although Will has never been the most subtle person, so they probably did.

"Haven't heard that innuendo before," Austin says with a cocky grin that makes Will want to punch him in the face. "I'll have to use that on someone at some point. Ask someone to come look at your comic book collection and five minutes later you're making out." As he passes them he claps Will on the shoulder, shaking his head. "You have more game than I gave you credit for."

"I-" Will wants to say something sharp and witty, something that will make Austin regret opening his mouth in the first place. But his face is burning and his emotions feel like a tangled knot inside of his brain so he shakes his head, leaning back on his bed and groaning softly. Nico is still next to him, his hands tucked between his legs and his shoulders hunched as if he's trying to shrink himself. His face is usually so pale it's strange to see it glowing bright red, his skin emanating heat.

"I'm gonna-" Nico doesn't finish his sentence, but he gets his point across by awkwardly nodding at his bunk as if he can't stand to get words past his lips. Will understands that feeling well. He's feeling it right now as if anything that he says will come out as jumbled a mess as his thoughts are.

"Yeah." Will bobs his head, staring at the ground. "Cool." He can't believe that's all he has to say. He's sitting on his bunk with the boy that he likes, the thought of their kiss fresh in his mind and embarrassment fresh on his face, and all he can think to say is cool. Maybe he doesn't deserve a relationship.

He presses his back into the wall, pulling his legs up to his chest like a shield to the world and propping his comic book upon his knees. Over the top of it, he can see Percy flash Nico a thumbs up, an eye roll from Nico before he flops onto his bed, burying his face in his pillow as Percy shakes his head, mouthing something to Austin on the bunk above Will before climbing up onto his own. There's too much tension in the room for Will's liking; too many words left unsaid, emotions left unexpressed. They're all brimming with opinions, thoughts on the kiss. But none of them wants to start the conversation so it gets left hanging in the air, waiting for the word to break the tension that never comes.
