Willis POV

My heart was leaping with joy as I prepared to knock on my Mom's door with Nico at my side. I couldn't remember the last time I had seen my mom. Two years ago? Three? I had heard she got remarried, and had another kid. Maybe I'd have a new baby brother or sister to play with. I wouldn't normally have been allowed out of camp but since the giant war had ended, Chiron had been way more lax about the rules. Besides, it was thanksgiving, and most of us still had families that we loved.

Nico's shaky voice startled me out of my thoughts. "Are you going to knock or should I? I'm getting cold out here." I could tell by his paler than normal face and hands shoved deep in jacket pockets that he walls nervous. I couldn't blame him, considering it was his first time meeting my family. At least my dad wasn't the god of death.

"Yeah, of course," I said. I gave a few short raps on the door, and the heavy oak door swung open.

My mom was exactly as I remembered; shoulder length blond hair, sweaters and blue jeans, bright blue eyes that sparkled with joy. I could see how Apollo fell for her. She was amazing and, in my opinion, the best mom in the world.  Although the way Percy talked about his mom, you would think she was a goddess. Her mouth broke into a wide smile when she saw me.

"Will!" She laughed. She engulfed me in a hug, and I could smell the delicious smell of turkey on her burnt orange sweater embroidered with fall leaves. "I haven't seen you in years!" She broke out of the hug and held me by my shoulders, examining me from head to toe. "My, you've grown! Oh, wait until everyone else sees you! I've been telling them you're at at a foreign boarding school." She stopped talking when she saw Nico.

"Oh, you must be Nico, Will's boyfriend!" She rushed over to Nico, standing uncomfortably at the edge of the stoop, and gave him a huge hug. I couldn't help but laugh at the look of shock on Nico's face.

"She's a huggers," I mouthed.

"I'm Naomi, Will's mom," she said. "I am so glad you're here!" She laughed. "Like I always say, the more the merrier!" She waved her hand, beckoning us inside.

"Well, boys, are you going to stand out there all day? Come on in!"

Nico's POV
When I stepped inside Will's house, I was met with a room full of people, all with blond hair except for one girl, who had long brown hair reaching to her elbows. When she spotted Will and I at the entrance to the room, she sneered but said nothing, instead deciding to turn the other way and talk to an old man with thinning grey hair. The room itself was painted a soft, sunny yellow. The curtains that lined the three windows were orange, as was the furniture.
Everyone seemed to know Will. Shouts of "Hi, Will!" and "Hows it been, Will?" rang throughout the room, but no one seemed to know what to make of me, the Italian kid holding Will's hand dressed in all black.  A few people waved, trying to be nice, but the brown haired girl narrowed her eyes, judging me from across the room. Ignoring the girl, Will led me to the back of the living room to an empty love seat containing two mismatched pillows. He started pointing people out one by one.

"See that man over there? That's Uncle Lenny. Last I heard he was a comedian, so expect to hear quite a few bad jokes during dinner. That right there is Grandpa Joe and his wife Marlene. There's my cousin Hannah and her twin brother Sam. They're pretty cool, so maybe we can hang out with them sometime." He proceed to name more names, pointing out every individual person in the room, giving me a name and a small tidbit of information, just enough so that if I wanted to start a conversation I could. I couldn't help notice he avoided mentioning the girl with brown hair.

"Who's that?" I asked, nodding to the girl. Will wrinkled his nose.

"That's Joanna, Uncle Lenny's daughter.  She doesn't like me very much, probably because I'm gay.  Anyway, steer clear of her." I gave another glance to Joanna. She looked to be about our age. She was wearing ripped jeans and some shirt with Justin Beiber's face on it. Definitely someone I had no business with. She caught me staring and stuck her tongue out. So she was immature, too.

My thoughts were interrupted by Will nudging me in the ribs. "Come on," he said. "I want to meet my mom's new husband." I followed Will into the kitchen, which smelled strongly of rich gravy. My stomach growled. I had shadow traveled us all the way here and I hadn't eaten anything since. I was starving. Naomi was tending to the oven, making sure that the large turkey didn't burn, and a forty or so year old man sat at a seat at the long table with a two year old sitting happily on his lap.

"Oh, hello, boys, come meet my husband Bob. Boys, this is my husband Bob and two year old son Apollo. Bob this is my son Will and his boyfriend, Nico." Bob gripped each of our hands, giving us each a tight handshake.

"Will, I've heard so much about you. It is lovely finally meeting you. And you, Nico."

"So,  Apollo," I said, trying to control a barely suppressed smile. "That is an interesting name."

"Yes, well, it was Naomi's idea," Bob said, grinning. "I thought it was lovely, so I went along with it."

"As lovely as it is hearing you boys talk, it is time for dinner," Naomi said, taking the thirty pound turkey out of the oven. "Bob, will you go call everyone?"

"Yes, ma'am," Bob said, giving Naomi a fake salute as he handed Will Apollo, who was practically bursting with joy at being handed such a young child.

"You two can sit wherever you want," Naomi said, gesturing for the two of us to sit down. In a minute, everyone else gathered around us and we began the meal.

You could say a lot about Will's family, but one thing was that they definitely knew how to do thanksgiving.  Gravy boats were positioned at regular intervals around the table, always close to the delicious looking turkey and gravy. Stuffing and vegetables were laid out, and rolls were scattered across the table in flower formations.

"This all looks amazing," I told Naomi, who was passing by us with a full plate of food.

"Oh, thank you, dear," she responded.  "Nico, have you met Joanna yet?" She asked, gesturing to Joanna, who was sitting across from us. "I figured I'd let you kids talk!" She left us alone with Joanna.

"So," Joanna said. " You're the gay ones, right?"

"I explained this to you last time," Will sighed.  "I'm gay and this is my boyfriend. There's nothing wrong with it."

"I wouldn't be so sure about that," Joanna said in an annoying, sing song voice that made me want to punch her. "Being gay is a sin," she spat. I glanced over at Will. I was sure he wouldn't like it if I started a fight, but maybe this time it would be acceptable. But to my surprise, Will was laughing. He was nearly in tears now.

"Being gay is not a sin," he managed to choke out through his giggles. I felt my nerves relax as I heard Will's laughter. Joanna only sniffed haughtily, flipped her long brown hair and left to get a piece of pumpkin pie that had just previously been laid out.

"She's an annoying little brat, but at least she makes thanksgiving interesting," Will sighed. "So, do you want some dessert? Grandma Edna makes it the best."

-------time skip to end of dinner--------

Will's POV
I glanced at the LED clock shining luminous red letters into the room. 10:30. Dinner had ended about two hours ago,  and Nico was curled up against me, wearing one of my old shirts and pair of sweatpants. He was too small to fit in anything I could wear now, so it was interesting seeing him in a washed out "Camp Laughs- A-Lot" shirt and pants with rainbows on them. I don't think Nico necessarily cared when he put them on, though. My family can be pretty tiring. I turned to look at Nico, who gave me a small smile when he saw me looking at him.

"Are you still awake?" I whispered.  Nico nodded.
"Do you want anything?" I asked.
"No," Nico murmured. He nuzzled further into my side, and I wrapped my arm around his shoulders.
"Is that better?" I asked. I felt Nico nodding into my side. Pretty soon, I could feel soft, even breaths and I knew Nico was asleep. I turned in his direction as I drifted off after an eventful day.

Hi guys! Sorry about the ending, I wasn't really sure how to end it. So, anyway, I don't know where you guys live but in America it was just thanksgiving, so that's where the inspiration came from. Hope you liked it!
