If you've ever went through your pokedex, then you would probably know how the Pokémon parasect is created. It starts off as a paras, but then evolves into a parasect once the mushrooms on its back takes over not only it's body, but its brain. The mushroom uses the Pokémon' body as a host.
It's a creepy way for a Pokémon to evolve, but we usually think nothing of it. Besides, it's just a dumb little crab right?
Most people figured that the mushroom could only grow on a paras, therefore only affecting the paras and turning it to a parasect. No one ever thought that it could be anything more.
...
I was a new trainer playing with my only Pokémon, a growlithe, in the woods. I was staying at my mother's house for a while until I would want to go out and explore more Pokémon. The only Pokémon I'd ever see were Pokemon in the woods. It was usually small Pokémon like rattatas that roamed those woods. Everyone had a rattata so I didn't really want one.
One day as I walked in the woods, my growlithe was acting very different. It would sniff the air constantly and occasionally growl.
"It's probably just a rattata, boy," I told him as I scratched him behind the ear. He nodded, then continued on.
We continued to walk until I noticed a strange Pokémon in front of me. It was the first parasect I had ever seen. It was a very odd Pokémon. It didn't really seem to know where it was going. It wobbled from side to side and even bumped into a few rocks and trees. It was very uncoordinated.
My growlithe had a low growl that quickly turned into a loud bark. I tried to stop it but before I knew it my growlithe was attacking the parasect. As I ran up to my Pokémon I heard a yelp, and then a whimper as my growlithe came running up to me, shaking.
I quickly checked my growlithe to see that it had been pitched by the parasect. Blood flowed from its neck and soaked into its fur as it whimpered. He looked up at me with watery eyes.
"It's okay, buddy. I'm taking you to the Pokémon center right away!" I then picked up my best friend and ran to the Pokémon center as quickly as my feet would take me.
I was thankful that a Pokémon center wasn't too far from my home. It was only a couple minutes away. The nurse simply gave my growlithe a potion and then wrapped the wound. I thanked the nurse before heading back home. It was slowly becoming dark out so I wanted the get home as quickly as possible. I didn't like walking through the woods at night.
As I ran home, I saw the white, lifeless, beady eyes of the parasect staring me down. I gulped as I continued to run. I held my growlithe closer against my chest to keep him safe.
Once I finally made it home, I went straight to my room and placed growlithe on my bed. We both had a rough day and just needed rest. I swear that the whole night I felt like I was being watched. However, I was exhausted so I quickly fell asleep.
The next morning I woke up to hear my growlithe whimpering in the other room. I jumped straight out of bed and followed the sound of his helpless whimpers.
I gasped and fell into the floor the moment I saw him. There was a small mushroom growing out of the back of his neck. He whimpered and cried as he covered his face with his paws. I couldn't stand seeing my growlithe in this much pain. I quickly grabbed him and ran to the Pokémon center once again. There had to be something the nurses could do.
As I ran through those woods I noticed something very off. The ground was once green with grass was now covered in mushrooms. I ran and ran and stepped all over the mushrooms without stopping. I didn't know how much time my growlithe would have.
I saw the opening to the woods that would lead to the Pokémon center so I quickly picked up speed. I was so close and I felt myself fill with hope and relief. Soon, everything would be okay.
I ran through the trees and saw the Pokémon center in front of me. I then tightly pulled on the door. It wouldn't budge. I put growlithe on the ground then began to bang on the doors. I shouted and banged the door harder and harder. It was no use. The building was dark and empty.
I sobbed as I slowly fell to my knees. I never felt so hopeless in my life. I turned my head to see my growlithe whimpering and yelping in pain.
"I'm so sorry growlithe..." I sobbed as I watched him suffer.
Growlithe then turned his head towards me. His eyes were completely white. He looked lifeless just like the parasect. As I took a closer look at him through my wet eyes I noticed that the mushroom had grown much larger.
I stared at him hopelessly as he wobbled towards me slowly. He was growling louder with each unsteady step.
"Growlithe..." I sobbed.
I knew he was dangerous. I knew he wasn't the Pokémon he use to be. But I still sat there. I wrapped my arms around him as he fell into my arms. He attempted to climb up me. His blank eyes stared up into my tear filled eyes.
For a moment, he looked like my growlithe. But the moment I heard his terrifying bark I knew it wasn't him. I pushed him away and ran as fast as I could. I could barley see through my tears but I just ran. I could feel his tiny feet behind me. I barley survived that day. I miss my growlithe more then anything but I know that if I didn't run then I would've been infected as well.
