Pokeballs are a huge piece of technology that are used every day on Pokemon. Both trainers and Pokémon think that they can rely on this technology. However, technology can't always be perfect. Nothing can.
A young trainer found this out the hard way one day as he attempted to capture a wurmple. He just lived big type Pokemon and was eager to add wurmple to his team, hoping that it would evolve into a beautifly. He reached into his bag and pulled out just your standard pokeball. The wurmple turned its head in curiosity to see the trainer standing there, clutching a pokeball in his right hand.
He smiled confidently before aiming and throwing the pokeball at the wurmple. As usual, a red light sucked the Pokémon into the pokeball before closing shut. He waited anxiously for the ball to move three times before clicking shut.
One...two...suddenly the ball stopped moving. It didn't click shut. The ball then made a strange sound as it slowly began to rotate around in a small circle. The trainer had never seen this happen before and just watched it happen in front of him. A small spark then bursted out, before the ball simply broke in half.
There was no way to get the wurmple out. The pokeball was completely broken, meaning that wurmple was gone with it.
This wasn't the first time there's been malfunctions with pokeballs. There's been times where trainers threw their pokeballs too hard while a Pokémon was inside, breaking the ball and killing the Pokémon. If there's just one small malfunction, it could end a Pokémon forever. We can't always trust technology no matter how safe they claim it is. This will just continue to happen.
